Let's Play "This was the TE to take"

No one is assuming that, and no one assumed it based on the assumption that he was related to a former Patriots linebacker. The argument is that there is no value in using draft capital on a blocking specialist TE rookie when the team already has one.
I wasn't suggesting taking a blocking TE, I suggested Moreau or Warring. Neither came from an explosive college offense or received max targets, but at least in Moreau's case he caught everything thrown in his area and both have athleticism enough to be more than blocking TE's.

I think he can possibly hang around at DE, strength is about all he has. All of his other measurables were poor, not fast enough for a DE not powerful enough to be a DT. Bad mobility, bad explosion, he had better be a master technician...

So, you didn't watch him, then?

I will be very very surprised if Moreau ever does anything more than block.

If I watched a lot of film of Tebow or Michael Sam would the results have been different?

Film lies, stats/data/measurables don't... logic.

I wonder if we could find a single scouting department from any NFL team that would agree with this.

I wonder if we could find a single scouting department that's infallible? Patriots are about as close as one can get, I like their entire draft but one pick, you think I'm wrong. Let's wait and revisit this in time.

I see you're a prime candidate for the ignore list. o_O

Yes anyone who disagrees with you should be on ignore, that way you can live in a bubble and be safe.

Are you "the" Alex Reamer?

Straw man = a dull excuse for an inability to respond.

No, in fact it doesn't. You made a strawman argument. Seek out some Logic 101 help.

No, I made a very clear and succinct point where I place actual production and athleticism over great highlights.

Sternburger would have been a very nice addition.

I still think we bag a veteran between now and game 1.

The Vikings have a huge cap problem to fix. Maybe we could take Rudolph off their hands.

Agreed, I think the reason we didn't take a TE was they've been talking with the Vikes about Rudolph the whole time. It's a good fit for a trade.

I agree that the current group is not an improvement over Gronkowksi and Allen. I agree that any of the current TE pairs is softer than Gronk-Allen.

So, is your point that it is OK to voluntarily to plan to be lots, lots weaker at a position?

We'll be much weaker without Gronk, no matter who we have in 2019. That goes without saying. We could go into the season with ASJ and LeCosse, with a TE on the Practice Squad. I just don't see that happening.

People are failing to learn from history. It is NOT true that we need to improve every year at every position. This team can absolutely rebalance its game around a softer TE tandem and it looks like they've made some obvious moves already to get them there.

yes.

Because no matter what, losing Gronk, we are going to be lots, lots weaker at the TE position. Especially with Allen also moving on.

We've had bad years at any number of different positions over the years and BB has gameplanned with that in mind and still produced winners. TE is actually an example we've had to deal with before

If the ingredients are different then the recipe has to change, and one person who is absolutely genius at building a roster with what he's got to work with, rather than what he wishes he had to work with, is Bill Belichick.
