He was on the field early on. I don't think they ever threw at him (they barely threw at all, since Freeman was on his back within 2 seconds). That's a good thing, IMO, unlike McCourty, who we saw too much of. Definitely wasn't McCourty's best day.
Arrington held his own
I think last years time he spent on the field replacing Bodden actually will come in handy this year as he looks like he could be important down the road.
Arrington looked okay, to me. He was mostly good with a couple of lapses. I have no problem with that in a #3 CB.
Bodden was definitely in the game in the first quarter. They may have been trying to give Arrington more time to practice. We'll see how things look in the third preseason game with the full dress-rehearsal.
Whenever I check the tape from last year. Almost all the passes completed are on Arringtong and I got the same feeling this game when he let the WR get too much space. Combine that with a question mark on Merriweather, my fear is that secondary is the weak link.
Saw just about every corner out there last night except Bodden
Did he just get the night off?,Nursing an injury?,Protecting him from another offseason injury or just to weed out the borderline roster players at CB with more playing time?
Fundamentally, I dunno if Arrington has the athleticism to play especially tight coverage against some receivers. Still, though, he held his own as a starting CB last year after Butler went AWOL and Bodden got hurt. The fact that he was even serviceable in that role was pretty exceptional, I thought, and he should be asked to do considerably less this year if Bodden and McCourty can stay healthy. I'm not particularly worried about the secondary, personally. Brown missed at least one tackle last night, but he was otherwise pretty good, and I hope that he can contribute too.
