Its well known that Belichick has tremendous respect for the man.

Perhaps for what the man has contributed over the decades, but I've not seen evidence that he respects him as a coach/opponent.

Well, not anymore than any other opponent/coach who should be in the hall of fame. I'm sure BB has coaches groomed to step into Josh's and Matt P's shoes, no need to go chasing names. It's worked for 17 years, why change.
