No he can borrow $, get a loan. Others can step up now that he's done. Someone can train him for "free" knowing his situation in the future. Most of these guys have camps they go to, sometimes on different sides of the country so they'll want to keep up relationships.

Anyone else getting a blank box when you reply? Can't see anything at all.
He doesn’t have to worry about ncaa violations.

Plus CEH doesn't know their offense so it'll probably take a year for him to get proficient...
I do agree, to a degree. However, RB has been a notoriously smooth transition from the collegiate to pro level. Plus, KC allegedly doesn’t ask their backs to blitz pickup much. Still, he’ll have his fair share of struggles as all rookies do.

They can live in a hotel for a few months. Quarantine after. We'll probably have the same conversation next year as this virus most likely will be around.

If they don't want to play, fine. They just shouldn't get paid for it unless they are high risk. It would fantastic to tell your employer that you're not working until things get better, but you still expect a direct deposit into your checking account every month.

Good one QM! I'm actually surprised you responded since you love drive by ratings. You go straight to my last question while ignoring the fact people need to work and don't have the advantages of these athletes. But screw them right? How dare I criticize an athlete I know you're down with the lockdowns/cancel everything and don't care if people are out of work. You must be rich.

This is like saying, "because these people got black lung working in a coal mine, therefore EVERYONE ELSE should also have to work in a coal mine".

Yeah, people working essential jobs are absolutely getting the sh*t end of the stick. They're getting paid crap, they're having to work regular hours, and they're at high risk for COVID. It sucks.

The answer to that isn't, "oh, let's ridicule privileged people who don't have to work, who choose to stay at home to avoid getting COVID". The answer is to take steps as a society to protect everyone from the pandemic, including essential workers and the most vulnerable.

The whole, "because some folks are suffering, therefore everyone else must too suffer" is destructive.

Here is the part I don’t understand from the argument. And, yes, it’s overboard on purpose :

Millionaires who got made money on their production or potential should automatically sequester from family - even though they have the option to stay with family and collect a six figure salary - because you (and other posters) feel it’s disrespectful to the people who are poorer or have lost their jobs ?

Just can’t understand that logic. Why does HT need to play a violent sport, at 30 years old, when he’s made tens of millions of dollars, won 3 SBs and would prefer being with a newborn, his wife, and his diabetic mother ? Each player can make whatever choice they want in their life. Who cares if a bunch of random strangers lost their jobs ? Why does Donta need to play because of that ? It makes no sense.

People’s hardships are irrelevant to the question « should an NFLer play this season - or ANY season ». Barry Sanders was disrespecting the single mother working at Dunkin D because he retired within prime years ?

It highlights the inherent inequality within our society, and how (for no good reason) some people are able to live relatively comfortably through this, while others are literally risking their lives day-to-day. That resonates at a moral level for a lot of people and rightfully so. It's not fair, and I get that.

But the answer is for society to protect everyone, including essential workers and the most vulnerable; the answer is not to force privileged people to assume additional risk.

« No good reason » ? Haha. They have abilities and potential that we don’t have. There is a perfectly good reason they make $$$ : they are better at a skill that brings in ratings and cash...

I think it’s pure jealousy. But count me out of that jealousy - there is no way I’d want to be a pro football player. Many die early and live awful lives in the years preceding their death. Screw that.

There are very good reasons. Those reasons are that the people who are able to comfortably get through it are doing so because they have the skills and work ethic to have put themselves in that position.

There will always be inequality in any society because people are not equal in ability, effort, talent, willingness and drive to succeed. Life is an economy. People rely on other people for life sustaining, and lifestyle enhancing goods and services. Those that add more to society are rewarded.
Artificial equality, such as socialism, removes individually and is not equal at all, because it punishes the people who contribute the most.
True equality is that you get out what you put in, and that results in some having more than others because they earned and deserve it.

I see Helaire having a big season.

Reid implements new plays on a frequent basis so everyone is learning the new plays at the same time. Also, Mahomes likes to improvise, so Helaire will be his outlet valve assuming that he is open.

I think that the "quitters" ARE high risk or have what they believe to be high risk family members.

That said do I share your concern for the many who have lost all or most income and decades of life savings, e.g. family restaurant owners.

Those small businesses and their owners could easily have been kept whole if we'd come to terms with the virus in the beginning, decided to see what was coming (not hard, just takes commitment and discipline) and then prioritized them. There's no reason for some small business sectors in the US to be crashing like this. We have more than enough resources to keep them, and the economy, healthy. We've prioritized other things instead.

He "needs" to play because these entitled jerks feel they have some right to watch football the way they want it.

Other than that, yeah, you're right -- it makes no effing sense at all.

In fact, they could've been kept whole the way other countries have done.

They fully guaranteed salaries for all small businesses and employees (if the companies avoided layoffs). This enabled them to totally avoid downstream impacts of a depression (i.e. no rents, no payments on loans, bankruptcies, etc.) while giving people the confidence to do the things that would defeat the spread of the virus.

They could have taken a heterodox approach to the economy (i.e. you do what is needed when the circumstances demand it or allow) without getting mucked up in ideology.

We actually had one of our big Fed Governors suggest we do precisely this but he was ignored.

Even the Chairman yesterday had some ultra-aggressive suggestions, so this playing out of 20th century ideological economic battles is just theater while the people on the front end of policy (many governors and economists) are giving 21st century answers. Our pols, unfortunately, are stuck in the cold war.

Let's keep it respectful guys. Tired of deleting posts and locking threads. You can disagree and talk about that disagreement without starting your post with things like "you're an a-hole." Come on.
