Player Signing LB Anfernee Jennings re-signed

Of two minds :

(1) boring, was hoping we’d move on from many current players

(2) good, because clearly any players on the team want to play for Mayo despite the team’s recent struggles

It does seem like they're running it back for the most part. Not really the usual normal approach for a 4-13 team, however, Jennings was improving so its not bad.

I want to complain about our failure to pursue some of the top defensive free agents. However, we are resigning our guys for so damn cheap.

Run it back with most of last year's D good stuff. I'd still like to add something new of significance just to make sure it stays one of the leagues better Ds. Plenty of cap to do that and still get more to help the O.

I was a little nervous when we heard about Uche that Jennings might be gone. Jennings had the better year last year but Uche has the double digits sacks from two years ago. Uche is more of a pass rush specialist and Jennings the better overall LB so good to have them both still. Each still has a lot to prove too.

One of the advantages of GMing for a 4 win team. The rest of the league doesn't think many of your FA players have much value (or skill)

Once again, another solid signing, and although I haven’t seen any numbers yet I’m guessing it will be a decent deal against the cap.

Good signing. I'm a Jennings fan.

But it's another "value" signing. Yep, you need a lot of those. You also need some A++ talent. My (hope) thinking now is that the Pats are in full reset mode, even though they're running it back with pretty much the same crew (very Belichickian, by the way). They'll improve around the edges, hope for some hits in the draft, then make their BIG MOVES (Hunter >>>>>>> Jennings) in a year or two.

Jennings doesn't show any immediate desire to turn things around, whereas a Hunter signing would have.

My (fear) thinking is that the team is in value mode (see Sox, Red) and we're in for an unwatchable product for the next few years. Personally, I'll give them a medium length leash before they go into the trash bin next to the Red Sox.

Miguel has the cap at just over 55 million. I’m not sure if Jennings is included, but I’m guessing it’s still over 50 million if he isn’t.

Resigning many of our own players means this roster was not absolute garbage like the record says. Huge problemas in the offensive side and special teams made that record.

That's why I dont doubt they make a winning season if they hit in the draft, many people here seems to be in a very pessimistic mood for next season. I look at the AFC East and there's no juggernaut, Bills favorite like in recent years, Miami is in for a disappoint season after going all in and the Jets is a question mark.

I’ve said this elsewhere:

But in terms of our own players? We’re resigning the right guys. And letting the right guys leave. Couldn’t be happier with that side of this offseason so far.

For a team that was last place in Opponents avg starting field position (31.7yd line) because of how bad the offense was, the fact that the Pats were 9th in Scoring defense, 5th in avg Pts per drive, 4th in % of drives resulting in a score is incredible. That and the D played the 3rd most drives all year, so they were exhausted and disheartened, but they still played hard. Keeping as many of the defensive players as possible is a no brainer. Great signing.
