If this was another team we'd all be calling this an overpay based on the players stats and his career but i trust Bill.

Alan Branch
Malcom Brown
Vincent Valentine

Are one of these DTs gonna be traded to make room for Guy?

From NFL.com this february in their list of Top 10 Interior pass rushers. He was listed at no 8

Much like Tom Johnson before him, it's unlikely most readers know recognize the name Lawrence Guy. A five-year veteran, Guy had stints with the Colts and Chargers before coming to Baltimore. He has 5.5 of his 6.5 career sacks since signing with the Ravens. Despite only registering a single sack, Guy brought consistent pressure with a 4.24 average yards to the quarterback on pass rush attempts. He only played 47 percent of the defensive snaps, so he's a rotational player, but his value to the team appears clear.

Wow, seems like a lot, but I'll wait for the structure before judging.

That's a lot of moolah for the Guy. You win in the trenches. In BB we trust.

He's a 34 DE. Doesn't play the same spot as Grissom. Or Ealy or Flowers, for that matter.

He's lumped in with the tackles here. He's different than the rest of our tackles, but that's a decent chunk of change for a 4th DT, when you returned your top 3. And when you use your DE's inside on passing downs. He probably pushes Valentine to #4 technically and does complement Branch and Brown.

Solid role player but I do question the exact fit. We absolutely still need DE help. This doesn't take care of it.

For what it's worth, from PFF in January 2017:

Arguably the best run-stuffing front-seven in football, the Ravens almost stuffed the run to their detriment at times. Michael Pierce, Timmy Jernigan, Lawrence Guy, and Brandon Williams all earned top-25 run-defense grades among interior players, but none finished in the top 50 for pass-rushing grades. They would finish 29th overall in pressure rate.
