Latest Fans Crying "They Cheated!" After Another Pats Beatdown

It'd help if they knew the difference between a pick and a rub.

2 receivers running slants and making DBs run into each other is completely fine and what the Patriots were doing, the 2 blatant picks they did run got flagged (and even those would have been fine if the WR didn't stop after contact).

The Cowboys get a trophy for their efforts on the field..

Kraft needs to bring 32 of those trophies to the next owners meeting. Hand one to each owner and one to Goodell.

Anyone who paid attention to the Manning Colts knew that their offense was predicated on the pick play. No one *****ed back then... I'm sure this will be a major blow up now that the Patriots are involved. Every team uses pick plays and rub plays to get receivers open. A pick illegal but it's also difficult to determine in a lot of cases. I'm actually more surprised at how poorly the Patriots executed it than I am that they ran them. They really failed to sell it today.

Agree in some regard. Martin gets a free pass from me because he's new to the offense and hasn't quite picked up the knack for setting picks.

But Edelman's pick (it ended up with him running into the DB) is something he probably would like to have back as he didn't maintain awareness that he was being funneled into the path of the DB.

IMHO, the key to setting a great pick is to actually not run into or jam the DB, but to just cause enough disruption to throw his timing or step off, or force him to change his path, all of which ideally would cost him half a step which is all you need in the NFL. That kind of pick is actually not illegal as there is not enough physical contact to warrant a penalty.

Went back and looked at the Edelman TD, the reason why there was no penalty called was because Amendola turned back for the ball. In fact it could be argued that the Cowboys defender could have been called for illegal contact.

Glad to see this thread, because it's been clear this would be the next "let's get the Pats" theme for awhile now.

Couple of interesting links for when this invariably comes up more and more the next few weeks.

Bedard on the play:

A Broncos writer (I know, but it's actually good to have another team's writer discuss it, complete with writing "Pound sand, NFL" to whining opposing fan bases):

If Peyton Manning retires after this season I guarantee the competition committee will have a new point of emphasis on pick plays expanding to shielding the defender not just making contact. Brady and Manning have exploited picks more than anybody else and with the league's protected child gone they'll punish Brady one way of another.

As for the refs not calling it the Pats were called for it at least twice if not three times in this game so they can enjoy the sour grapes.

Amendola has to be the best at setting those rubs/picks, because the only time the Pats get called on them is when DA makes a long catch-and-run. Seriously, the guy gets 400 yards a year called back on picks.

Sad to say, I think you're exactly right.

I think it's funny other fan bases are now referring to any in-game infractions the Patriots incur as "cheating".

Pick plays? Cheating.

ILLEGAL Block in the Back? Cheating.

Offensive Holding? Cheating.

Delay of Game? Cheating.

So according to my admittedly flimsy Google research, the last time a team never cheated during a game was the 2011 San Diego Chargers against the Broncos when they had zero enforced penalties against them (and even then had a defensive offsides declined).

The lengths people will go to to refuse admitting that the Patriots are simply a better team than theirs borders insanity.

Remember the "illegal pushing" penalty during a FG attempt called on the Patriots against the Jets a couple of years ago? I remember some articles (actual articles, not the comments or message board posts about the articles) that had a sentence like "Folk missed a 48 yard FG attempt, but the Patriots cheated by committing a penalty..."

Last week, in the Jets-Dolphins game, Miami kicked a FG and the Jets were flagged for having a guy line up right over the center. That was the same type of "cheating" but no one called it that. It was just treated like part of the game.

I couldn't tell if this was an Indy fan or a Cowboys fan. I might have guessed Ravens if he was wearing purple instead of blue...

According to fans of other teams, the Pats NEVER won a game without cheating (in the Belichick era). Started with the Tuck Rule, which obviously was created with the Patriots in mind, and banned quickly after the Pats used it (cheated). Then they won 3 Super Bowls from 2001-04 by filming team's defensive signals, it was cheating DESPITE not being against the rules until 2007. Then last year they cheated by deflating footballs by using the weather and the IGL in the AFCCG. So according to them, in 2000, even when Belichick went 5-11 with the Pats, obviously those 5 wins were tainted. And obviously Brady was cheating from the sidelines that season.

Get used to it! Every team we beat will not go down without some sort of cheating excuse. Bar was set by Goodell* who planted this through media because his other pathetic owners/teams can't get it right Especially with his Salary Cap for teams to be more equally competitive.
I LUV IT! BRING IT!
