The statement was made that Bill Belichick turned the Browns into Super Bowl contenders. I disagreed.

The person who made that statement supported it by referencing a 1995 preseason media prediction claiming the Browns would go to the Super Bowl. My counter argument was that teams are (or aren't) Super Bowl contenders based on their performance on the field, not the number of mediots who predict it in August. Otherwise the Jacksonville Jaguars are currently Super Bowl contenders.

Then it just devolved into the usual internet arguing, but I think it has run its course.
