Kraft regrets giving Belichick so much power without “checks and balances” in place.

Why Is Kraft on Breakfast Club? Has he always been this public (documentary aside)? I know he is friendly with Charlemagn but still weird.

I fully realize that NFL Teams are basically Billionaire's "Toys" and therefor can do whatever they want with said Toys. Jones of the Dallas Cowboys being a prime example of what not to do as an owner. I greatly appreciate what Bill accomplished during the majority of his tenure as the HC/GM. I also have issues with some really dreadful personnel decision's (or lack thereof) that Bill made (even around the time of their last SB Championship). All of that being said, since Bill left, RK has been a train wreck of an owner. Although he's not telling us anything that we don't already know, he reeks of ingratitude and is just coming across as spiteful. At this point, I'd be just fine and dandy with him selling the team to someone who both has the money and the brains to hire a proper and competent GM, and hopefully usher in a new winning era of Patriot's Football. And, if Maye has what it takes to be a legit Franchise QB (which will depend to no small degree that he doesn't get injured with this OL in-specific and Offense in-general), I don't see the current management and coaching staff being up to the task of rebuilding this team. And, before you jump all over me; Yes, I hope that the current management and coaching staff prove me wrong. And if I am I will gladly admit it. I've always stated that this will be a 3 to 4 year rebuild (assuming that almost everything goes right). But, I've been a fan of this team since the 70's, and have seen various incarnations of recipes for failure with this team (and other teams), in that time. Like the rest of you, I'm just watching and seeing how things unfold (hopefully for the better). In the meantime, RK can start by just shutting his pie hole about Bill and concentrate on the current task at hand.

Checks and balances are always needed in large organizations. Don't understand the issue people have with this particular sounbite.

Kraft gave Bill the credit saying he gave him full control because he earned it. In hindsight, when it went south, it just kept going as there was no check to slow things down.

I am not going to rehash all the crap that went down since 2018 or so but it was a massive list. Had there been less absolute control, maybe some of those things don't happen.

You answered your own question. "I am not going to rehash all the crap that went down since 2018". It took 5 years for RK to figure that out and steer a new course? 5 years? A massive list should not take 5 years to figure out. Why did it take 5 years?

Because he made the decision to start Maye and feels like he is a stud today. Very simple. So he plays the humble card.

I rarely agree with anything ScottishPartiot posts. But he is spot on with this. I hate to admit it, but you are right.

RK obviously insisted that the coaching staff start Drake Maye in week 6, and then felt so good about himself after week 6 that he went on the Breakfast Club to imply that everything is OK after watching D Maye. The previous problems were because RK made a mistake with the last mamangement team. RK is falling on his sword. It is so obvious and transparent. RK can not stop himself from saying it. Why? @ScottishPatriots is right - because RK has a compulsion to interject himself into the 6 SBs and claim he was part of that success.

If you ever wondered why voters do not caste their ballot for RK to enter the NFL HOF, you do not have to wonder any more.
"Scatback for the Columbia Lions football team..."

"I never felt more honored than when I was accepted by the brotherhood of football owners..."

We should have seen this coming long ago.

If you have someone who is selling out the future for his own aggrandizement, you need checks and balances.

Here we had a coach who did the opposite. He planned for the future and never sold the team out by being spendthrift.

In fact, the owner criticized the coach for planning for the future TOO MUCH!! (Garoppolo).

With a GM/Coach like that, a guy who has the best interests of the franchise in mind, you let him do his thing.

What exactly are "checks and balances" for a GM? Someone has to be the final decision maker. You can't split a draft pick between 2 players. To some extent free agency is an either-or. It's unrealistic to think you'll get an organizational consensus on everything. Someone has to be the guy that makes the final call at the end of the day. You can't "check and balance" the final decision maker. Then he's not the final decision maker. Someone needs to wear that hat and be judged on the results. BB did a phenomenal job in the role for probably a little over a decade and a half. After that, it really started to slip. Coaching staff hires, draft picks, free agency, all of it seemed to fall off a cliff. Results were bad and it was justified to move on.

With the way teams manipulate the cap and the sheer growth of it, I think BB's ability to build adaptable teams got lost a bit. Teams don't make tough calls on the roster anymore, they just add void years and make it the next regime's problem to deal with the dead money. It's reduced the overall depth of free agency and minimized the need to deal with change, which was something BB did better than anyone else. I also think the schematics of the game have changed to where BB was no longer an innovator. He's smart enough to coach against it, but he wasn't an aggressor anymore either as a GM or a coach.
The new "packer way" as eliot wolf claims. 2 SB appearances in 27 years with 2 HOF QBs is the way to build teams.

I was just thinking about that earlier this morning (although it's been on my mind for awhile). I've been living in the Green Bay Area since 2001. Even the Fans here aren't happy with "The Packer Way". The Steelers won as many SB's with 1 QB and in less time than the Packers have with 2 QB's in a much longer period of time. I'm not exactly enamored with "The Packer Way" and neither are a lot of the fans here.

Somehow these things never get called out by our mediots . From a far all i can see is a team with a lot of offensive focus and defense just being there mostly. I see the pats team going that way.

He has this insatiable desire to be liked by all things, all people in hip hop.

He's got a thing for Molly Ringwald.

Agreed. I hope if that's the case, that they change direction before the damage is irreparable.

I really hope he was not the one who made the call; regardless of it working out.

Let’s see if RK’s smart decisions, being in control, check and balances, adapt to change, staying classy….wins him another super bowl.

Did you see him before the Jets game on Amazon he was loving him some Robert Kraft acting like he’d found the next great coach, you’d think he just won a Super Bowl but was currently 1-1 with a win over the Bengals.

It’s actually quite sad how much a successful billionaire owner needs to chase credit, his obsession with getting into the hall of fame is turning off voters and fans, no one matter how great an owner is you can never get the same
appreciation a player or coach can.

It’s ridiculous going on a one man crusade while your football team is one of the lowest spending teams in the league and 1-5.

Hopefully he sticks an orchid in his ungracious gob first.

Kraft's behavior is why I'm getting that New England Browns vibe.
No question Bill wasn't perfect and he made a lot of mistakes that Tom covered up which were exposed the last three years but for God's Sake move on.

Seem like the Mayo/Kraft "throw Bill under the bus for our ****ty season" smear campaign is in full swing.

Must be the ghost of Larry Luccino possessing Orchids.

The only thing I'll say for Kraft is that it's a dangerous world and that billionaires exist in their own bubble. There's reams of evidence now that these people are so lost and out of touch about what's going on with their everyday patrons.

I'm reminded of what happened to Elon Musk when he appeared on stage with Dave Chapelle. He could not believe that people were booing him. This is what happens. People will always tell you what you want to hear because of your money, and it's very hard to find anyone willing to tell you anything otherwise.

Way too soon to judge Mayo imo. He’s a rookie HC who coaches like one right now. We’ll see where they are after the season.

There’s none of the dysfunction that we saw the last two seasons…

No dysfunction?? After a game against the Dolphins, where flags were flying like crazy, they open the next game against the Texans with a flag on the kickoff. Is that dysfunctional enough for you?

He’s right. People can ***** and whine about him saying it now, but it was a major problem.

-only one coach in the league would be allowed to let the best player in franchise history walk in free agency for absolutely nothing.

-only one coach in the league would be allowed to let Matt Patricia be the OC.

-only one GM would have gotten away that long with as many awful drafts as he has.

Belichick got freedom and without a certain QB to put makeup over it, he proved he was wrong and Kraft looked like an idiot for letting Bill do it.

No, its really not.

No dysfunction? Have you been watching the games at all? They have been a visual depiction of the definition of dysfunction
The games last year were just as messy.
