Years ago, Bill did a piece and explained his draft philosophy. Part of it was to be making sure you picked a sure starter in the first round, and in the 2nd take a shot and be willing to miss. Gronk and his bad back was an example of a hit, just as Richardson was an example of a miss. Not excusing the horrible drafts of the last several years, but to explain the thought behind some of those 2nd round misses.
White and Duggar has some very good years with the Pats. There were several "experts" who rated he and Owenu as the top FA's at their positions in 24 and most of the hypocrites here praised their signing when it happened. We know we had to pay a premium for FA's that year and if we hadn't signed them the "Kraft is cheap" lie never would have died down.
Duggar's fall is more about scheme fit, but also about his injury. I don't doubt he'll have a resurgence next year and be in the league for a few more years at least. Maybe not this year but going forward.
Same for White. His numbers in 2024 are pretty good. He was very effective inside rusher in 23 during Baremore's breakout year. He play up to this year justified the 2nd round pick. Now I have NO idea why he ended his Pats career as a healthy scratch, but CLEARLY, he no longer had a role on this team. But there is a good chance that he ends up being a good pick up by Niners. Even if this ends up being true, I'm fine with the trade, because clearly him being traded for a bag of ace bandages is more an addition by subtraction than anything else. And since it is extremely doubtful we will ever know the specifics, it doesn't matter. We need to pick up the rush and Mike his staff deemed White wasn't the answer and that's enough for me. It's THEIR team and his decisions have by and large been good ones.
Now we OWN the 6th round and if you remember the 6th round has been very good to us.
