Keion Crossen CB pick 243

More I think about this guy, the more he reminds me of Darryl Roberts, who I believe should never have been cut.

Tell that to the Great King BB:rolleyes: with his unmatched record of drafting Second Round DB's. Watch this 7th Rounder be better than the Second Rounder.:D

They're pretty different players. Dawson is really good as a slot / safety hybrid, which we need. Crossen is a shoot for the stars pick as a perimeter corner. I like both players. No need to hate on the one while saying you like the other's potential. :)

So if Belichick sucks so bad who would you rather have?
Who would have taken us to more than 8 SBs and won more than 5?

Come on. You should know that around here any positive comment needs to be balanced by a stronger negative one.

I went to WCU for undergrad. As WCU isn't exactly an NFL farm school it's nice to have their only drafted player since 1994 going to the Pats . Definately pulling for him.

That's really cool. Awesome for this kid and his family. Hopefully great for the WCU football community too. He's obviously got an uphill battle to make the team this year - hope it works out!

I like him more than Dawson. But I suppose Dawson has a higher floor so the double dip here makes a lot of sense.

Agreed w reamer . don't really see double dipping here . different positions.

Dawson IMO was a very specific pick to defend the slot primarily and Ill be surprised if he's not starting there day 1. His versatility is a bonus. To me defending the slot was one of the biggest problems of Pats D last yrs esp. since Ryan left (and even with him it was not as good as it could). Rowe can't do it to save his life, JJ at least improved in some aspects of it but it is not his fit and I can't really understand why they didn't try more w Butler there. Cyrus struggled again mightily in TC, they experimented with Chung, even Bademosi in SB and while Chung wasn't so bad its not his forte plus you're losing him in/near the box where he is pivotal. Dawson was a slot monster last two seasons and I was glad they addressed this position directly - with possibly top slot specialist of the draft.

btw - i was just listening to Sam Monson and Steve Palazzolo from PFF discussing Pats draft - quite decent discussion on the most part actually - and they loved this pick. One reason was they believe only successful college slot DBs can become successful NFL slot DBs. They are studying this for 3 years now and results very much confirm it.

Crossen was probably more of ST pick (that can possibly develop in backup perimeter CB). His speed and range could really help in the kicking game esp. under new KR rules. When I watched his film with great speed and range i thought maybe they could try him at FS. I wonder what @reamer @BGC think of this..

here a nice “closer“ look tape at Crossen . good look at strength, attitude, tackling (aside from speed, agility, range, beating traffic..) . seems to play bigger, stronger than his measurables would suggest. i really have a feeling there's a safety hidden there..

I love the pick. Def long shot but after the 4th it's "Take A Shot" 95% of the time anyway. Crossen is the kind of player you "take a shot" on.
No, actually Crossen is the kind of player you "sign as a UDFA."
JC Jackson is the kind of player on whom you "take a shot" in the 7th round.
Which is what I'm going to pretend happened here.

Since we ended up with both, does it really matter? o_O

The benefit of taking someone in the 7th is that you don't have to fight with other teams to procure his services. Crossen has the athletic profile to be an absolute super star. Granted, he's on the shorter side, but he has really long arms to make up for it. Other than 7/8ths of an inch, he's physically comparable to Denzel Ward. I doubt his technique is quite as advanced, and he hasn't proven himself on the big stage, but I thought he was the best of the late round corners, and a great pick in the 7th.
