Today In Patriots History July 17: Peabody's Jerry DeLucca

Back in the 80's I umpired a benefit softball game between former Bruins and Celtics vs local police. There were two DeLuccas, Joe and Joe Jr, who played for the Bruins team. I wonder if they were related to Jerry.

Initially I expected they most likely were related, exceptional athletic genes travelling from one generation to the next. But the Boston Patriots player spelled his name with two C's, Delucca, while the hockey players spelled their last name with one C, Joe DeLuca.

It's too bad, because their being relatives would have added a nice twist to the story.

Cool that you got to meet former local pro players up close.
