Eh. I mean I don’t hate it. I know how good of an OC the guy can be.

But I wanted to start with someone new outside of this building. I’m tired of continuously recycling “our people.”

This is a new era. Stop trying to go back in time.

You can also scratch off any remote possibility of Devante Adams or any former Raider wanting to come here lol

Very happy about this. Josh took his turn at being a HC, but can now focus solely and totally on Maye and the offense. Hope Van Pelt is kept as an assistant/QB coach.

I don't love it. WR's have a hard time picking up his system...and this team has one of the worst WR rooms in the league.

The team needs new blood. Not just brining back old familiar guys.

Well, I guess we'll see how it works out...

I'm OK with this.
The guy brings a ton of experience as an OC. The problems getting plays in, game-day execution, should be eliminated.
He was OC when Dante was here and saw an effective OL development program.
He was creative enough with Brady - with a system perfectly suited to Brady's capabilities.
I guess our hope is that he understood what Weiss was doing to enable Brady to optimize his skills, and built his offense around that.
He's obviously been far less effective with other QB's, but has experience with Cassel, Garoppolo, Kyle Orton, Tebow, Minshew, and someone named O'Connell. So he's adapted to different QB capabilities.
He favors fullbacks and tight ends, as does Vrabel. But ran a lot of 3WR sets in Las Vegas and with Moss/Welker.
Not just Kraft - Vrabel has extensive experience with Josh as well. Little known fact - Vrabel actually caught 10 touchdowns! No one ever mentions this.../s

So I was hoping for something new with Caley or McCown, but this should be a leap above what was delivered with AVP.

What a bummer.

Desperation hire.

He's a good offensive coordinator.

I was just hoping it would be someone who wasn't a Patriots retread, and the opposite of a full reset.
I'm sure McDaniels can help translate his offense to the WCO kids, but I also wish that transition didn't have to waste time and take place.

And at least this time, no one will be knocking on his door for a HC gig - so I suppose stability is part of the hire as well.

McD might well take the Belichick route and end up as a college HC.

Love it for the following reasons:

1.) Was the OC for the #2 all time scoring offense.

2.) Went 10.75-5 with Matt Cassel at QB after he didn’t even look good in preseason nor played any competitive football since high school.

3.) Went 7-9 with “No-Arm-COVID” Cam Newton and Brian Hoyer.

4.) Went 3-1 with Jimmy Garopollo, Jacoby Brissett, and a broken thumb Brissett.

5.) Went 10-8 with Mac Jones. And Jones made the pro bowl that season (yeah, alternate….)

6.) Still getting paid by Mark Davis.

7.) Unlikely to be a HC ever again….at least in the NFL…which is a boon for Maye’s continuity.

8.) Think he even still lives in the area as well!

Good enough, it seems to me. An experienced coach with a proven record of developing an offense, adapting to different QB's, probably has good contacts to help in finding coaches, and so on.

Carry on: we are miles ahead of where we were a year ago,, two years ago, even with Wolf still on staff.

This is where I am.
I don't feel great about it, but he does have a strong track record, and is really good with in-game calling, which was a weak point of the entire team last year.

Did not want him as he is overrated because of Brady and it is just recycling of old ideas. When are we going to develop or tap into new offensive talent?
He has proven to be adaptable and has, according to multiple reports been working on adaptng to recent offensive concepts. Say thank you and eat your porridge.

He does live in the area
