Josh Kline released

A little surprised they don't keep Kline and cut Karras expecting to get him to the PS. I'm not a big fan of "no-one gets claimed", that's not been true with the Patriots, but Karras doesn't seem like the type who would be claimed; low draft pick, doesn't stand out athletically. It's encouraging to have four your guards (Thuney, Mason, Cooper, Karras) who they seem to like enough to do this.

Expected. I really have to wonder the emotions these guys go through when things like this happen. Him and Stork being tossed back and forth between teams has to be excruciatingly demoralizing.

It must be awful to realize you couldn't even be given away

That's not really fair. To take him, Philly would have had to cut someone and would have had to assume his salary, which isn't small for a back-up.

It's also probably part of the reason the Pats went with Karras...1.7 million reasons.

Yeah, I'm sure it sucks for him in the moment, but it's more just a function of the business side of things than anything else.

He'll catch on somewhere else, and continue making much more money than most people. I think he'll be OK.

Yep, hopefully Kline can catch on somewhere with a more modest deal. He's useful depth, but 3 years of Karras on a minimum rookie deal does seem to make more sense for the Patriots.

The statement by Patswickedpissah:

"It must be awful to realize you couldn't even be given away"

isn't fair. When you come with a hefty salary vs. your value and they would have had to cut someone else to accommodate you, this statement is rather nasty and not fair.

And yet the deal wasn't altered otherwise was it? Neither the Pats nor the Eagles had to add value to the trade after Kline was removed.

Looks like Kline was in there only because the Eagles thought they could flip him for a pick, while the Pats were looking at a cap savings.

Exactly.

The only benefit to the Iggles was flipping Kline as the clearly didn't need or want him.

It is clear that as a courtesy to Rosen and to give him time to perform some market analysis, BB held on to him as opposed to cutting him outright. I bet BB told him that they tried to shop him and there was little interest. Why Rosen thought he could do better is baffling

In the end, Pats were gonna save $1.7 no matter what.

At the end of the day, BB gets a 2nd rd pick from last year who as a rookie was up and down but has good physical ability and did OK as a starter his last 5 games of the year for a 4th which could be a 3rd.

I really don't understand how allegedly smart guy like Joe Banner doesn't get that.

He would be worth a 6th or a 7th during training camp or down the road when teams start to face injuries, but as of now no one would give even a pack of marlboro knowing the Pats had no intention to keep him and needed to make a move asap to be within 53 players, just the timing was not favorable but he should continue to be a nfl player very soon.

The consensus around here is that Josh Kline sucks...has he actually ever blocked anybody?? I thought we were too loaded on the interior anyway. I am worried about our Starting RT and the dept behind him I don't think they are any better or worse.

Right. They didn't try to give him away. Its not like the put him out with the trash. He had a price tag.

If he was free and the Iggles didn't take him then that is cruel.

Has he signed with the Eagles yet today?

Amateur hour by the Eagles. Joe Banner thinks they "outsmarted" Belichick. Fat chance.

Too bad Kline gets caught up in the wash in this nonsense. It's hard enough to work your butt off for the entire off-season, get hurt and then get cut. It's adding insult to injury to get jerked around by a bunch of fat-heads who assume that they are smarter than everyone else. Embarrassing.

Damn Pissah that is just plain mean...

Sure, you'll're right about all that. Pissah can be pretty damned Offensive.

01 ~ Was his Statement nasty?? Oh, absolutely.

02 ~ Was it unfair?? Perhaps. It consciously ignores the Reality of the Salary Cap Implications.

03 ~ But was it funny?? Oh, Hell, yes.

Kline is a Grown Man.

He can take it.

He can't block.

But he can take it.

Look up what happened to Kevin O'Connell.

Anytime a player is cut it is a shame for that player. However, last year he was an important contributor, many times we didn't have anyone ahead of him. This year, there are 3 players that the Pats judge are clearly ahead of him at guard (and Karras was probably comparable but cheaper), that has to be good news for the play of the offensive line this year in the interior.
