Re: Barrett to IR: Niko re-signed

I'm kinda surprised that Belichick hasn't brought in the following for looks considering how bad our DBs are..

Eugene Wilson
Randall Gay
Fabian Washington
Marlin Jackson
Michael Lewis

Re: Barrett to IR: Niko re-signed

I expect a hard fought game by Pats.....It will probably come down to one or two plays either way that determines the outcome...

Let's hope TB has his accuracy and no tipped balls.....and BOB gets his sh!t together and has a ground n pound option going...

Pats are one point underdogs in Vegas unless the line moved recently...and thats within the 3 point HFA...

I didn't know Greece played football |

Re: Barrett to IR: Niko re-signed

You can repeat this fiction as many times as you wish. Meriweather and Sanders were not liabilities as #3 and #4 safeties. Belichick had the injured wannabee Barrett and special teamer Brown who he wanted to develop. Fine! That did NOT mean that we should have cut our #1 backup safety, one of our most dependable defensive backs for years, James Sanders. Judging that Sanders isn't good enough to start is one thing. Cutting Sanders is another.

And to point out that Sanders isn't succeeding elsewhere is irrelevant. Sanders knew our system well, better than any of our defensive backs. He could have continued to be our #3 safety (and start as necessary).

And Meriweather was also good enough to be our #3 or #4 or #5 in his last season for us. He wasn't good enough to start, but he was worth keeping as insurance.

How does that work??? That you have on the bench 3 million dollar safeties you cannot trust, and they are insurance policies to 300K players.. they also may have not been assets to this team while on the bench.

The economic system that BB uses does not allow for that.. but, unfortunately there has been some bad luck.

The Patriots systems is a meritocracy, and if you do not do your job you are not not needed.

I defended Meriweather all of last year and this year, only recently I realized my folly..

Re: Barrett to IR: Niko re-signed

Amazing how many people her think that because Meeriwether and Sanders were disappointing it meant that Josh Barrett and Sergio Brown were automatically a better option.

If someone's arm is hurting, amputation is not the only option.

I don't remember anyone saying that Barrett and Brown were better options.

Sanders is definitely someone the Pats shouldn't have let go. It's one of the headscratchers.. Especially since Barrett and Brown did not show that much in pre-season..

Re: Barrett to IR: Niko re-signed

This sucks! I really like Barrett.

lol... who cares.

the wheels of patriots secondary goes round and round round and round...

I agree. One would've thought that we would've at least kept looking, but that's what the other 31 teams would've done...

Apparently, BB has a plan. It's just scribbled in another seldom-used language that none of us can relate to.

The "Patriots system" is putting the best 53 together. BB screwed it up, and that includes, perhaps primarily, the safety position. Had he kept one or both of the Sanders/Meriweather duo, the team would probably be in much better shape back there today.

Re: Barrett to IR: Niko re-signed

When we draft a player in say the 3rd round for peanuts and start him, should we always cut the former starter? You think that this is solid economics? I think that you keep the backup corner or safety. Sanders wasn't fired when Chung arrived and started.

Re: Barrett to IR: Niko re-signed

Personally that's bad news for Barrett, personnel wise it's a non issue given he contributed nothing to the Patriots on game day.

I'm loving the Patriots secondary personnel moves in 2011.

Re: Barrett to IR: Niko re-signed

Losing Barrett is addition by subtraction !

His biggest impact on the field in 2011, hurt us and helped the Giants.
He gave the Giants a free time out when he got on the final drive Sunday.

Chung limped off the field Sun (just before the fatal demise) and has not practiced. Looks like he will be out Sun, leaving the safety position to...quick now.....um......

Re: Barrett to IR: Niko re-signed

Wasn't Barrett a JAG, who was often the subject of vitriol in this forum???

Now there are those who lament his loss...

desperation leaves us baffled. Kind of reminds me of the restaurant joke (i.e. food is terrible & such small portions).

It's a good idea to see what Sterling Moore has this year, as opposed to next year.

An additional LB makes sense because:

a) Spikes may not play for a week or four weeks .... who knows.

b) it helps us play more 3-4, either in sub or mostly. Our DLmen are the same now as this time last year.

We've heard good things about Moore, let's see what he's got.

As much as I love having 5 running backs on the team, it kind of sucks that only one of them can be in the game for any given play. And 3 of them only really play on third downs and 2 minute drives, making it hard to give them snaps.

Conversely, 2 or even 3 safeties play in BBs defensive scheme on every defensive play and he literally has no one if Chung is out this week.

In all seriousness, without Chung this weekend, could you make an argument that the Patriots are going to start the worst set of safeties in a NFL game in the last decade?

Well, in the last LUSTRUM, anyway.
