Patriots Player Departure Joe Cardona released

Seems pretty clear Vrabel wants to cut ties to the dynasty and Super Bowls. Three captains and Super Bowl winners from that 2018 team outright cut, and the other two were not re-signed.

Two of those cut captains had failed physical designations. And if that's the case why not cut the replacement captains, including Henry, and/or the one holdover, Peppers?

It is just a stylistic change. Cardona was mainly snap and block. Ashby is more of an athlete than Cardona and they will probably use him like a gunner after the snap.

WOW. Talk about pulling s**t out of your rear end. Cardona was not just a "snap & block" guy. He made plays each year on STs.

Thinking that Ashby is going to magically become a gunner after snapping the ball because of his athleticism says you don't know jack about the coverage responsibilities after a snap.

Oh stop, CT. You're making too much sense.. We should just let people be illogical and irrational and not call them out when they're throwing BS against the wall. Don't you know that?? ?

Andrews has said he didn't want to be cut so they could have let him get to camp and compete and cut him then. Same with Bentley. It seems to be clear that Vrabel is ushering in a changing of the guard and removing links to the last Super Bowl team. The replacement captains weren't part of that team and as for Peppers I wouldn't be surprised if he is cut/traded this summer. Him and Dugger are redundant and he could be the odd man out.

That seems kinda pointless, since he and McDaniels are literal reminders of that storied past, and I don't see how it makes the team better.

There are costs to carrying anyone on the roster that’s already destined to be cut. They can’t compete if it’s already decided. It’s also disrespectful to waste their time if the decision has already been made.

It’s absolutely clear Vrabel is starting with carte blanche. Things like this emphasize it. That’s good reason for him to decide to do it this way. Not saying there aren’t other ways it could be handled, or that this is the best way or the way he should, but this is how he’s chosen to do it. Like it or not it’s an extreme makeover.

Mack Hollins also won a ring as a rookie reserve WR with the 2017 Eagles.

That was the main reason I wanted coaches with no ties but I would think Vrabel won't be banging his rings on the table every day.

I seen him charging down the field after the snap making tackles
I just hope that style does not lead to injuries
Bringing in another long snapper while he rehabs spells trouble
No continuity with the kicker

Yeah, the idea that covering downfield on punts is a "style of play" for a LS is a head scratcher. That's...their job.

for how long?

Looking at his contract, he's here until at least June 1st (on paper anyway). The Pats have 6.5 million reasons to give him the benefit of a doubt and TBF he had a damn good year on a losing team '23.

Never seen so many people broken up about a long snapper.

It's the wasting of a draft pick on one that bugs me. Fuhgeddabout a dime a dozen; those dudes are a dime a dozen Times a dozen.

Might have been better to keep Cardona until we are sure his replacement can handle the duties.

He is just being handed the job.
Cardona can give us some of the best perspectives in Pats history.

- He was there for all of Dynasty 2.
- There for the bitter end of the Brady era.
- He lived the Cam year. And the Mac years.
- He witnessed every single stage of Bill's demise in the organization.
- Saw Mayo's rise and Icarian fall.

He's got some serious qualifications for writing a fascinating Pats book.

A couple of thoughts:

I just don't get the talk about Cardonna being cut as a culture thing to get away from anything related to the BB era. That's ridiculous. Mike and Josh THEMSELVES are products of the BB era and long term succuss of the dynasty. They'd have to fire themselves if they really want to cut ties with anything BB.

No my guess it was a calculated move to add a younger and possibly more athletic LS at a cheaper price. Maybe they saw a decline last season.

2. I was surprised to see him sign with the Dophins. I thought he'd ride into the sunset of a continued career in the Navy. Makes me wonder how he will carry on that career now that he's in South Florida. IIRC, didn't he work at a school in RI?

BTW- The fact Miami signed him, doesn't mean he'll be their LS. I image he'll be in a competition with last season's incumbent for the job. I don't recall there being any complaints about the Phins LS last season.

Kind of an interesting twist on the Cardona cut. God knows we need some new fodder for discussion here to get us through to TC

I've seen games LOST because of a bad snap brother, I don't subscribe to this.
