A couple of thoughts:
1. One of my pet peeves is hearing about a cap space number WITHOUT including the number of players they have under contract. For example if you only have 35 players under contract and are $100MM under, you might be worse off than a team that's 50MM under and has 50 players under contract. The number of players under contract is an important factor in determining the true state of a teams cap situation, yet we rarely hear both numbers in conjunction with each other.
2. Bell would be a GREAT pick up for the Jets for a lot of reasons.
a. He's a player who can bring some excitement to a franchise in desperate need for some excitement.
b. He is a proven producer of yards in both the run game AND passing game. He's a 3 down back who would be a huge help in the development of Sam Darnold.
c. Since they are paying Darnold relative peanuts for the next few years, they can well afford to overpay Bell for the next 2 or 3 years.
b. I'm a big believer in not paying much for RB's and we have followed that prescription for many years. IIRC Cory Dillon might have been the ONLY RB in this 20 year era that we even close to market rates, and that was for only 2 years.
That being said, for the Jets situation in 2019, I think getting Bell is a really smart thing for the Jets to do, because when Darnold is about to enter his prime and get a market deal, Bell's prime with be over and he'll be gone. Then again, I just used the phrase "smart thing" in conjunction with the Jets, so they'll probably pass on Bell.
