But honestly what I think the most interesting thing about all this is just how badly the Jets have managed the QB situation overall for the better part of a full decade. Over multiple coaches. Multiple GMs. I don’t know if a team has managed the position as badly as the Jets. The Browns? Bad draft choices and support and some rotten luck. Bills? Bad choices in players, paying Fitz, but the Jets did that too.

And:

Now the Jets have a costly 1 year rental who they can’t start because he’s a disaster. They have a disgruntled and mistreated young QB who is on the last season of his contract and likely wants to leave, even if he plays well. They have an injured second year draftee who hasn’t seen any action and wasn’t highly viewed to begin with, and they have a rookie who is named Christian Hackenberg and lol can you believe the Jets spent a 2nd round pick on Christian Hackenberg? At the end of this season, the Jets will likely be left with Hack and Petty. The Jets have so royally screwed themselves at QB, and the team is falling apart around the QB position anyway. Decker is on IR. The defense is terrible. Bowles looks lost. It’s astounding.

Jets played one of the hardest schedules since the season started. Record is no suprise. Still gotta win if your a good team though. NY post had something funny on the front page yesterday... It said NY football had become a soap opera. Couldnt be anymore true

OK. We should all be so lucky as to be "trapped" in the Ryan Fitzpatrick Cycle.

The guy was a Math major at Harvard.

He was drafted in the seventh round in 2005 with a signing bonus of $28,200 (no, I didn't leave out any zeroes...that's twenty eight thousand).

If my own math is correct, including this season, the lad has pulled down $42,130,000 and change in career earnings, including a $10,000,000 signing bonus out of the pocket of the Bills and a cool $15,200,000 from the Jets.

If the cycle proves true, he's probably good for another $2--3 million somewhere next year as a reliable backup (plus some performance incentives), if, that is, he thinks it's worth getting his head bashed in for another season.

The Jets do indeed suck and will suck for the foreseeable if not everlasting future. But Ryan Fitzpatrick is one smart dude.
