I think it's a superstitious thing. I remember reading something on their forums after a loss once that blamed it on the gold pants.

Anyway, I and uncounted millions of other long time Patriots fans, apparently none of whom ever heard of let alone logged onto patsfans.com would be grateful, and hopeful that it could become permanent

Sounds plausible, after all, the pats abandoned the blue on blue look after they suffered some losses in them in 2002 (vs go and den).....until the nfl made them do it for color rush
