Jason Cole: Patriots' punishment expected to be reduced

Quick question - anyone know if we have any other 2nd round draft pick in 2016 except our own?

It would be if Kraft really had any other recourse other than suing the league. He won't do that. Goodell will never admit the Wells report is crap or that he wasted all that time and money to say that all he got was a trumped up report. Goodell will only accept a compromise where he can still satisfy the rest of the owners that he went hard on the Pats and he doesn't have to admit the Wells report was a fraud.

Goodell is more about what looks best for him and the league than justice for the Patriots. He needs to end this saga, but he needs to look right.
He has a right to appeal, and can take the same approach as Brady and the NFLPA that an independent arbiter must be assigned instead of Goodell because Goodell will be a witness.

Kraft is helping no one by bending over.

Then Kraft should not accept a compromise, and demand an appeal hearing in front of an independent arbiter.

You do realize the independent arbitrator will be Goodell?

What about Brady's suspension ? That should be reversed completely. This is BS. What about his reputation and the teams reputation. The Patriots should be exonerated completely, anything less is unacceptable. With fines only reduced, means the Patriots are admitting they did something wrong . The media and public opinion will not change one iota !

Not if the NFLPA has any say about it.

It will, however, get passed down to one of Goodell's cronies...

Any suspension of Brady is unacceptable.
If I am Goodell my goal would be to keep the case far away from court or any neutral abritrator who will tear it to shreds. The only way to do this would be to reduce Brady's suspension sufficiently so that he would accept it.

Kraft can take the same approach as Brady/NFLPA. Goodell cannot be arbiter because he will be a witness and his actions are part of the appeal. Legal standing on that is solid.

Jason Cole said his sources say that the League is recognizing that the Wells report is flawed and the punishment is too severe and the although the Pats believe they are innocent there are too many pieces evidence they cannot explain away. It is likely a deal is imminent and it will reduce the penalty. Supporting the Schefter report with more info.

I don't think Brady accepts anything that is not zero. May hold out for an apology on top of zero.
In any event Kraft can't accept a penalty for Brady.

The only suspension Brady will accept without a fight is zero.

Well he could just say that the Wells report completely cleared the Patriots organization of wrong doing, and that therefore the punishments to the franchise were a complete overreach.

********. League is a sham. They've made the NBA look like a credible organization.

there will be a compromise. i said earlier, i think itll look soemthing like this

Pats fined $750K
Pats lose 2016 2nd or 3rd
Pats lose 2016 4th

Ted Wells never working for NFL again

That is still too severe IMO for what amounts to nothing in Wells' report.

We should only lose a 4th round pick at most. And Kraft shouldn't have to pay more than 100K.

Brady at most misses 1 game. And I think that's even too severe.

Except Brady is going to have to sue the league to get an independent arbitrator. Kraft won't do that.

One cent is far too severe.

Kraft could agree to fork over draft picks and money and agreement not to appeal in exchange for overturning Brady's suspension. That way the NFL decision is never exposed to due process.

Anything more than the 25k in the rulebook is too much imo.

I would be OK with that as long as it is the jets picks.
