There’s probably a halfway decent fullback on somebody’s practice squad that can be poached.
I believe there’s only one fullback that can be signed off a practice squad. The Ravens did use the exemption for their German fullback, so he can’t be signed by anybody.

That leaves Khari Blasingame, an undrafted rookie on the Vikings’ practice squad. He was a tailback in college and has been playing the fullback position for less than six months.

edit: Blasingame got a raise to over three times the PS minimum a couple weeks ago, which seems to indicate that he’s not interested in signing with another team.

They certainly do gain. They gain the revenue/advertising of another three-hour televised game, plus pre-game show and post-game show.
Three Sunday, one Monday - plus Thursday equals a max 25% revenue boost - presumably less than that, but probably significant.

Where do you get your numbers from? Do you honestly think that those 17 games (1 per week) just disappear and the league doesn't get any revenue from it?

There are 15 games per week. It doesn't matter if the games are on Sunday, Monday, Thursday, there is still 15 games. What makes you think that there is an extra three hour televised game?

The idea that moving the 1 game from Sunday to Thursday boosts league revenue 25% doesn't make any sense at all.

My stupid football question: Last year the Pats used Dwayne Allen as a blocking tight end. All he did was block. Maybe, a couple of catches for the year. Do the Pats currently use an OLineman as a tight end who only blocks, a la Allen? If they don't, why don't they?

Because they have an issue with the quality depth on the O-line currently. You know, they don't have their starting LT or their Starting center. You're asking them to risk injury to a series of positions that they are already very thin at.

The 49ers worked out all the “big name” free agent fullbacks this week and decided that they’ll just go without a fullback instead. That’s not a great sign.

I wonder if Marcel Reece is still in shape.

This is feeling like 2013 all over again injury wise.

Man the injuries are just piling up, sometimes I think teams need a bigger roster.

wtf, when it rains it pours.

Because their OL depth chart has been murdered by injury as well.

...and 2015...and 2017.

The different thing this year with the injuries as opposed to some of those past years when the roster got decimated is (and let’s all frantically knock on wood) is that it’s all happening on one side of the ball.

The defense is pretty damn healthy as we approach the halfway point of the season, and if that continues the patriots will be alright as long as the bleeding stops on the offensive side.

well and not many season ending injuries.

Wynn and Harry come back in relief, Dorsett and Gordon will also return shortly.

What about Mike Burton (drafted by the Lions in 2015...currently a FA and was in camp with the Saints)?

Right, good point. They could pretty much have a fully healthy team (they are not getting their starting center or full back back, but teams almost always lose a guy or two at some point) come playoff time, which is always the goal.

I think Andrew Beck is the guy, to the point that I almost expect the Pats to deal for him. The Pats made him a very highly paid UDFA earlier this year so they must have seen something they liked, and he got playing time this season for the Broncos so he's not rusty. And now that Janovich is healthy and just got a 3 year extension yesterday, the Broncos are probably looking to get rid of him anyway. Pats could probably swap their 6th for the Broncos 7th or something like that, or even just a conditional 7th, since right now the Broncos are the only team in the league carrying 2 FBs. One way or another Beck is going to be off the Broncos' roster imminently, they might as well get something for him.

We also need LeCosse to be healthy and/or to pick up a blocking TE. Obviously a healthy Allen could be the answer.
