Patriots Player Departure Jabrill Peppers Released (Update: Signs w/Steelers)

I think that’s a good summation.
I think it's crap.

The 'insider' didn't 'elaborate' on anything.

As much as I respect Reiss he isn't an 'insider', he's a beat reporter on the outside looking in.

Reiss reported it was all about scheme, then Vrabel stated it is NOT about scheme.

Reiss didn't 'elaborate', he 'hinted' when it came to it being about Peppers being upset with a diminished role.

The words he used while hinting were:

Would Peppers have been OK with that? That’s less clear at this point.

It sucks that what passes for coverage these days is one media guy chopping up what two other media guys say, and one of those two guys didn't really say anything all that concrete.

Not gonna lie: outside of Gonzo, Jones and CDIII, I have massive concerns about the secondary depth.
Don't worry, when Barmore and Williams collapse the interior and anyone of our edge guys turn the corner, our secondary instantly becomes much better.

A scheme issue but more talent than some who stayed. Internal uncertainty could explain the timing. A little curious that they kept Dugger who also doesn’t fit.

Dugger was kept for one reason, and one reason only: his Unmovable contract. Thanks Eliot!

Not sure where this works.
We can't explain all we want, I just don't see it.

Their out is 2026. Maybe then even trade him at the deadline if there's an injury elsewhere.

If he was not a producer, he would be cut and the team would eat the $10M less whatever he gets elsewhere.

You seem to have lost your knowledge of the concept of sunk cost.

I felt the same way wozzy. I think peppers was the more aggressive athlete. However he nor Dugger the team saw as long term guys. Woodson is a talented guy that the coaching staff is confident in. Feels like Woodson, Dugger and Hawkins will be the guys.. with Pettus mixed in as well. If Pettus really comes on like I expect him too with increased playing time. He and Woodson will be the starters by seasons end.
Why do you expect Pettus to come on? His RAS score of 6.39 is low due to being short and not explosive. Pettus is not a great athlete. What indicates he is coming out?

Perhaps this is a signal that Vrabel is prioritizing the rebuild over wins this year.
Not saying they are tanking but maybe they are focused on incremental yearly improvement over making the playoffs this year.
Replacing Peppers roster spot with a developmental PS player like Gregory means the focus for wins is more on 26 and 27 than this year

That would at least help explain the moves made here since TC began; because not many, if any, of them were made with actual, you know, winning games in 2025 in mind.

I believe if we didn't have the cat coverage guys on the outside it makes the peppers move more glaring. He's been one of my favorite patriots since he got here. However the team likely has a valid reason to move off him. He'll catch on with a contender.

The...what?

Marketing himself. Trying to reassure teams he’s going to be able to help make them better. Nothing more to it than that, and maybe some hurt feelings.

Is he wrong?
