This is why I think Belichick will try to tag and trade him. His stock seems to be rising right before free agency. I think there could be several teams willing to trade for him. Bill will know most likely before the March 8th deadline if there is a strong trade market for Jackson. I still think there might be.

That's the hope and don't see anything more than a Second Rounder which I think we desperately need to retool.

One bad game doesn’t make a career, if it did Stephon Gilmore was a bad player because Stefon Diggs beat him up one time.

If Jackson gets a billion dollars then it’s time to look at more affordable options.

Btw when Gilmore was traded to New England many fans called it a massive overpay citing how bad the Bill’s D was at that point… turned out okay because a great organization can pull better results from players.

If the Pats tag him and intend to try to trade him, it may be in his best interest to sign the tender immediately because the Patriots are then on the hook for the money even if they cannot trade him (if he doesn't sign the tender, they can cut him without any cap implications or owe any of the money. That gives Jackson leverage in where he goes especially if two or more teams are vying for him and one will give him a better deal but the other is giving more in trade compensation or if only one team is interested in and he doesn't want to go.

I don't think Belichick is afraid to send Jackson to the Jets. They have a lot more issues than CB. But the Giants have two picks. And if the only offer is the 32nd pick by Detroit, I would take it and I doubt Jackson will fight it if the Lions gave him close to Jalen Ramsey money.

They can't cut him because he's a FA. They just rescind the tag ala Panthers in 2016 with Josh Norman. They realized a deal wasn't going to happen and they thought he was overrated/not worth the distraction.

Yes, a player can refuse it. But their only option is to sit out the season. Le'Veon Bell did this to the Steelers and sat out the year.

No one is talking about Jackson refusing to sign the tag. He will just sign in early July. If the patriots are willing to have the $17M of cap money unavailable until then, that's fine.

He was the highest rated CB on Cincinnati and played very good in 2021, he could be had cheaply. He allowed just 39 catches on 66 targets with two interceptions this year.

It’s entirely possible for draft picks to underwhelm early in their career and have a late resurgence, Darius Butler is a good example, so was Patrick Chung. I think NE could get the most out of him.
