J.C. Jackson - "It's time to get Mr. INT paid."

This is why I think Belichick will try to tag and trade him. His stock seems to be rising right before free agency. I think there could be several teams willing to trade for him. Bill will know most likely before the March 8th deadline if there is a strong trade market for Jackson. I still think there might be.
That's the hope and don't see anything more than a Second Rounder which I think we desperately need to retool.

One bad game doesn’t make a career, if it did Stephon Gilmore was a bad player because Stefon Diggs beat him up one time.

If Jackson gets a billion dollars then it’s time to look at more affordable options.

Btw when Gilmore was traded to New England many fans called it a massive overpay citing how bad the Bill’s D was at that point… turned out okay because a great organization can pull better results from players.
One bad game? Guy's a washout on 3 different teams. Classic first-round bust.

I still think if there are teams or even a single team out there that believes Jackson is an elite man cover CB, someone will give up a first rounder for him. That is a rarity in the NFL and people pay a premium for them.

so, a 1st rounder in July after Jackson signs his franchise tag

Rob check out that Draft link Philly have Three First Rounders Hmmmm.

Good news below on Jonathan Jones....we saw how important he is for our defense against buffalo....we pair him in the slot with JC outside and those are two good corners.

Wouldn't be far fetched to put him on the outside with Jackson potentially leaving.

LOL! You won't let that die. if Jackson is on this team in July, he will be a Patriot in the 2022 season. If he is going to be elsewhere, he will be gone before the draft.

There are several teams with multiple first rounders. So there is a chance one of them would give up a first for a stud CB.

I'm just imaging being Jackson getting all that money upfront instead of being tagged. He could get tagged get a really bad injury and don't cash in the way he could have in FA. His current stock going into this offseason couldn't be any higher: players always prefer the Upfront $$$$ if given the choice I'm just saying.

Jets and bad news Lions no thanks...I am intrigued with the Philly Selections. For instance swap Firsts Rounders 15 or 16 for 21 and we get a Second or a Third in the process for a JC Jackson trade make it happen BB.

It is in Jackson's best interest to get a new deal in the first few days of the tampering period whether it is with the Patriots, with another team if the Pats decline to franchise him, or if the Pats decide to tag and trade him.

If the Pats tag him and intend to try to trade him, it may be in his best interest to sign the tender immediately because the Patriots are then on the hook for the money even if they cannot trade him (if he doesn't sign the tender, they can cut him without any cap implications or owe any of the money. That gives Jackson leverage in where he goes especially if two or more teams are vying for him and one will give him a better deal but the other is giving more in trade compensation or if only one team is interested in and he doesn't want to go.

I don't think Belichick is afraid to send Jackson to the Jets. They have a lot more issues than CB. But the Giants have two picks. And if the only offer is the 32nd pick by Detroit, I would take it and I doubt Jackson will fight it if the Lions gave him close to Jalen Ramsey money.

Wait what do you mean if he doesn't sign?? I thought if a Team Tags they have the rights for that player for at least a year barring a trade? Can players refuse to sign the Franchise Tag?? I thought the Tag was a protection for the original Team who Drafted Player X?

They can't cut him because he's a FA. They just rescind the tag ala Panthers in 2016 with Josh Norman. They realized a deal wasn't going to happen and they thought he was overrated/not worth the distraction.

A player can refuse to sign a franchise tag tender and incur penalties.

But that is not what I am saying. As long as a franchised player doesn't sign their tender between the point they are franchised and mid-July, they can be cut and the team isn't on the hook for the tender. After July 15 or they sign the tender, the team is on the hook for the money.

Yes, a player can refuse it. But their only option is to sit out the season. Le'Veon Bell did this to the Steelers and sat out the year.

Rob: check RainMaker's post that's what I thought the Tag protects the Team and not player long term.

No one is talking about Jackson refusing to sign the tag. He will just sign in early July. If the patriots are willing to have the $17M of cap money unavailable until then, that's fine.

He was the highest rated CB on Cincinnati and played very good in 2021, he could be had cheaply. He allowed just 39 catches on 66 targets with two interceptions this year.

It’s entirely possible for draft picks to underwhelm early in their career and have a late resurgence, Darius Butler is a good example, so was Patrick Chung. I think NE could get the most out of him.
