I would think (hope) that Bill would have constructed the roster differently with Brady than he did with Cam in that mess of a season. Maybe Bill making the move for Diggs was too rich for his blood but Hopkins was available then too and went for less as far as trade compensation. Even guys like Emmanuel Sanders and Robbie Anderson still had something in the tank at that point and would have been upgrades over who we had. If Bill doesn't take a receiver high or make a move for Hopkins or Jeudy (or a guy in that skill range) then it seems pretty apparent he doesn't value that position even with a young QB who needs a lot more help than Brady ever did. Bill set Brady up to fail at the end here and so far it seems as if he is doing the same to Mac.

I am hoping that Bill at least gets a dignified exit and that it is framed as a retirement more than a firing. I think he has earned that and Kraft would be willing to play along. What I am not so sure about is whether Bill would go quietly so close to the record. I honestly think he would take another job for a season or two to win the record and that makes me wonder if Kraft would rather keep him here a season or two too long and get mediocre results than see him break Shula's record elsewhere after just watching Brady win a ring elsewhere.

The problem you are not accounting for is that the team was cash strapped during this period. Nothing bill could have done except draft good WRs would have changed anything had Brady stayed.

I don't hate Bill. I think he is the greatest coach to ever do it but I think it was time to move on this offseason.
If someone else got Christian Barmore you'd be whining about how we were going to bridge that gap.

I'm not done with our two rookies who've shown some capability at the NFL level. I will say, this year is close to dispositive on Jones, and next year, if we don't deal him, is make or break.

I'm starting to think Jones' big problem is if it turns out he IS good, then we could get something for him in a trade. I'm not sure he and BB go into the season on good terms, and if he does succeed that might be the danger zone for him

But I don't think this Lamar Jackson fixation makes sense for us. Glad to be proven wrong.
I still believe in Lamar as a difference maker and someone who could bring instant hope to a team that is currently at the bottom of the fish bowl.
LJ would instantly make the Patriots contenders this year. Why BB and Kraft do not pull the trigger is beyond me.
LJ makes everyone better on the offense immediately and brings swagger, personality and playmaking ability to a team that has none.
The cost? Mac Jones, the 14th pick this year and a 2nd rounder next year (because Mac Jones is included).
250 for 5 years guaranteed, so what. Add in some voidable years and the contract is doable (see Jalen Hurts)

It takes balls and a willingness to take on some risk to do this. Best possible outcome for this team....

How to say you're one-and-done without saying you're one-and-done:

Let's just hope he completes 66% of the snaps before he ends up on IR.

Per Spotrac they had $24 mill in cap space in 2020. Don't pay a guard $14 million that year. Brady's dead cap would have been spread out so it would have been around $6 million instead of $13 million in dead cap from what I remember. Restructure/extend Jon Jones and Shaq Mason. Poof you have more than enough to pay Brady the $25 mill he wanted and still sign a Robbie Anderson or Emmanuel Sanders time. The cap is crap and Bill could have just kept kicking the can down the road. Do those moves get Brady and Bill another ring? Maybe not but we would have had much better odds than we did without Brady. We are now three seasons removed from Brady and I don't know about you but we don't look to be anything close to a Super Bowl contender.

Never understood the "Jets have all the leverage" argument. The Packers had a guy the Jets wanted. That right there is leverage. They could have just let Rodgers linger on their roster till training camp and really screw the Jets. The Jets needed to get him in the building so he could be there for OTAs and camp and that isn't even counting how things may have shifted if they didn't get it done before the draft.

That would be kind of interesting if that happened. He’d have a $43.725m dead cap hit to the Jets in 2024 under that scenario. He could be a post June 1 retirement to lower it to $14.575m in 2024 and $29.15m in 2025, but that may cause other options bonuses to trigger, and they’d need to keep him on at a $32.5m cap charge until June 1 before they could reduce it. The Jets really need him to play for 2 years to have a more manageable dead cap hit under the current contract.

Should end well, right?

How is having a pessimistic outlook on the team the same as "enjoying being negative"? You want people to fake optimism?

If the Patriots had made this same trade for Rodgers then I would be saying the same thing about the Patriots. I can't stomach Rodgers but he's a talented quarterback and he's much better than what either the Jets or Patriots had last season. He would make either team better. As it's turning out, he will make the Jets better. Their team is similar to ours... good defense, good WRs, above average running game (with a healthy Breece Hall), and questionable o-line... but now they're greatly improved at the most important position of all (QB). That's going to make a big difference as it would have for the Patriots. But they made the bold move, and we didn't, so hence the respective team outlooks.
I appreciate your response, but I have to say it is hard to take you at face value, your posting history says otherwise. Almost everything BB does is met with a negative view. You have too many posts of that ilk to convince me otherwise. However, if you start seeing the some of the positive views to BB's decisions, and posting about them, I will consider taking you for your word.

Have you seen my username and Avatar?
I thought that was a voodoo doll. Maybe others do also and that's why everyone is needling you?

I think with media and him being a media whore like his predecessor Aaron Rodgers is going to Love NY to the detriment of the N.E. Patriots and fans.

This is like lighting a match to gasoline.

Plus, Punky will learn plenty about mechanics watching Rodgers complete passes throwing off his back foot.
