Bryant has 19 career snaps on offense and was drafted in the 7th round. They brought Munford in for a reason.
I think Mumford might be a better swing tackle. I think Bryant is only a RT.

That’s certainly possible, but it cracks me up.

Back in draft season some fans here wanted Armand Membou for LT, even though he only played RT in college. They argued that he could have played LT just fine at Mizzou but had to move right because the other tackle, some guy named Bryant, could only play on the left!

Maybe one too many "LT's" there...

Alas! Edited, thanks.

Munford is insurance against Lowe going down with an injury while Campbell is out. And probably Lowe’s successor next year. He’s played for Josh before. That’s why he could take meaningful game snaps just days after coming in the door.

Bryant is heir apparent for Moses. Looked surprisingly good in camp, just not good enough as a seventh round rookie to bench an eleven year veteran who just signed a $24,000,000 FA contract. I just can’t understand the rush to write him off as a bust because he didn’t push Morgan Moses to the bench. smh.

He played Left Tackle at Missouri for 4 years.
We do, however, have a better option at left tackle, also already on the roster. Same draft class.
We also have better options as backup LTs. Both Lowe and the recently signed Munford were in the 2022 draft class, so much more experienced than our rookies.

Lowe has been on either the Vikings or Patriots 53 man roster since being drafted, playing in 38 games and starting 21. Lowe has mostly been at LT with the Patriots, with a few appearances at RT.

Munford spent his first three years on the Raiders roster before bouncing between the Patriots and Browns practice squads earlier this season. He’s played in 46 games, starting 18. Munford is a swing tackle who also has two starts as a tackle-eligible tight end, per patriots.com. He was also named a first team All-Big Ten and a first team All-American playing guard during his last season in college.

With those two plus Bryant, our depth at OT is really not bad.

Yes, but even though he has college experience, what I was reading suggested he has the build Josh likes for RTs, not LTs. If we were desperate, we could use him as LT, but I don’t think they see him as a real LT.

I like how Mumford was used against the giants.. seemed like it was effective.. I think we see more of this going forward..

you think that TE heavy offense is going to let their TE2 walk?

i dunno about that... doesn't hurt to kick the tires... what would you offer him?
Right now H. Henry is older and having a better season than likely or my guy Pitts. I feel we draft a TE and add one in FA.. Hooper may/may not return?

I like both likely and Pitts to be truly frank. I've leaned more towards Pitts the pure skill set.. as a more athletic and better skill set as a pass catching TE that Josh could maximize..

"Zero Vertically movement skills" as a "Liability"?
What are you talking about, that nonsense RAS?
He'd be an offensive lineman, how high does he need to jump?
Actually vertical and broad jump are one of the first things I look for in an offensive lineman. I know everyone thinks they need to be strong, and they do, but more then that they need to be explosive. That's coach speak for how fast they get out of their stance, how quickly they can get to a spot, and drive their guy two yards backwards. So much of playing oline is leverage and positioning, low man wins and being where you are supposed to be when you are supposed to be there.

The best correlation to explosion we have is jumping. Wilfork could dunk a basketball. That is absurd for a man that large but it's part of what made him so dominant, he was almost always the first one to his spot. Big part of why I was ok at best in HS despite being 6'4 320 is my vertical is about 6 inches. Plenty big and strong enough just not explosive at all.

Agreed, athleticism matters a lot. It’s not everything, there is a mental aspect that’s hard to quantify, but saying athleticism is meaningless is absurd.

Barry Sanders, Randy Moss, Deion Sanders… these were really smart savvy players, but their freak athleticism made them really dangerous.

Is that another way of saying his arms are too long?

Bryant is a road grader?
What makes any player a road grader?

Is Will Campbell a road grader? Morgan Moses? Trent Brown?

Another extension for the Ravens with a big time, upcoming free agent. They had Andrews, Jones, Lindebaum and Likely as 4 guys due for long term/sizable deals and now 4 are extended.

Seen as how Andrews was just extended maybe likely hits FA?

Any evaluation of Likely so far is talking about his age 22-25 seasons that he'll have played with Baltimore. We're not signing him for his age 22-25 seasons though, we're signing him for his age 26 through whatever seasons. You have to factor in projection there. You have to scout the routes/formations he plays in BAL and then what you'd plan to use him in and see if that matches his strengths to where he'd be better or worse. Do some background character work to gauge how he'll handle having big time money.

LOOOOOOOOOTS of guys are better from age 26-29 than they are 22-25. Some flame out and suck too. Some just are what they are and stay consistent. Need to do a good scouting job of what he has been and also projection. The goal is always to sign that guy who plays better on their second deal than they did their rookie deal. So you can't just write a guy off based on his current level of play, you have to actually project.

It's no different than the other direction where you're signing a guy who'll be 30 and you have to understand that he probably won't be as good from 30-32 as he was from 27-29 just due to aging curve.

I think message boards like this have a tendency when we talk about free agents to judge a guy for what he is and just assume that's what it will be going forward. It doesn't work like that. Guys don't have one static level of play for their whole careers. Part of signing free agents is projection.
