Inside the most dysfunctional Pats season under BB

MY THoughts:
- I think that Patricia went to Bill and told him that he believed he could implement facets of the Shanahan offense.
- I think that Patricia took the same approach as Herman Boone took by "simplifying things". But his lack of understanding of the how the parts of the Shanahan offense worked together were huge issues.
- Patricia clearly didn't understand facets of the Shanahan offense. This got exposed by a player or players who had experience in the Shanahan /McVay offense (not sure who outside of Bourne had that experience). I think THIS led to Bourne "being in the dog house".
Just on this, I think you’re spot-on, and it fits Belichick’s comment in the summer about how good coaches can coach anywhere. Belichick really liked Patricia’s performance as DC even though I myself thought it was too conservative in general (he did win 2 SB rings as DC with great 4th quarter / OT performances in those, so what do I know?). Obviously Belichick was wrong on him.

In regards to other players - Trent Brown was under Kyle Shanahan in SF, and the article noted how the OL adjustments were the biggest issue of all. Hunter Henry played under Anthony Lynn with the Chargers - a member of Mike Shanahan’s 1997 and 1998 Super Bowl winning Broncos, and currently assistant HC with the 49ers.

- Joe Judge failed to "Do HIS job" and then tried to do other coaches' jobs, causing issues. It's awfully strange that he wasn't showing up to meetings unless he was TOLD to stay out of them.
This is honestly the most embarrassing part.

Its one thing for BB to think that hey maybe Patricia's intelligence and defensive knowledge will translate to be a competent OC, and be wrong.

But it looks like Patricia and Judge just failed on the most basic levels as coaches. You would think he would have some idea how Patricia/Judge interact with people.

And its extra weird is because the narrative was/is BB only wants to coach with his buddies. But his buddies seem like the kind of people you absolutely would not want to be working with

“The base offense the Patriots drilled last spring and summer barely resembled the system Belichick had overseen for 23 years”

WTF? We were told endless times by a certain someone on here that the system was the same one we’ve been running for 20 years.

That‘s what the Tape says right

Just the kind of stuff that was going on in DET and NY. Either BB was willing to discount that because buddies or failed to learn of it for lack of due diligence again because buddies.

Yup. I guess those guys didn't self reflect on any lessons learned from their stints there so they are being shown the door again here for the same reasons.

Players and other staff much more willing to talk once they know for sure their bad bosses have been fired.
Reporters are also more willing to spill the beans when they feel their once-valued source(s) are being cut out of the loop.

Takes courage to say what you know when you know it.

So much for I'll take Mac Jones along with the Patriots brain trust over Trevor Lawrence with the Jaguars brain trust.
Anyone who said that is a moron. And that’s even without using 20/20 hindsight. The physical traits are off the charts with Lawrence and he’s made huge strides, mentally, with even more room to grow. But if you DID want to use 20/20 hindsight, Mac slid multiple times before the first down marker on key third downs this season. On a key third down against the Chiefs, Lawrence lowered his shoulder and ran through the tackler. That says a lot.

It's pretty odd that these reporters saved up all this stuff long after most people decided this whole MP/JG experiment was a failure, and now fire it into the post-season void.
I don't think they saved it. I think they interviewed who they interviewed after the season. They may have hung on to it for maybe a week or so until the day the Pats were going to officially announce BoB as the new OC/QB coach.

The only reason that Mick Lombardi would have uprooted his life and move to Vegas to be OC would be that BB didn’t want to offer him the OC title.
How do we know this to be true? I can think of several other reasons why he'd go to LV. Maybe he simply prefers to work under Josh rather than Bill, maybe they mesh better. Maybe he sees his potential path to HC is shorter by going to LV instead of staying in NE, not being in Bill's shadow, not being surrounded by Bill's "cronies". Maybe he simply wanted to be a part of something new. Maybe he liked the idea of living somewhere different. Maybe he thought he'd be more successful as an OC under an offensive-minded coach like Josh rather than a defensive minded HC like BIll.

"Distain" is a bit strong, honestly. But really I just told you my problem with BB... the GM side of things, drafting, and when he lets his ego or personal agenda dictate his decisions. To whatever extent any of that has overlapped with or affected Brady, then yes, I have a problem with BB there.
Using the term "ego" does show a bias against Belichick. Not sure where that comes from unless you listen to Felger. Making decisions based on "ego" is the same as saying they're based on emotion, and BB is the opposite of that, he's Dr Spock, very unemotional. His behavior toward the media is based on the fact that they can't be trusted, and they can't.

It makes sense for them to wait until the season is over for various reasons:

1) to get the full story. This article encompasses the whole season.

2) some sources were more likely to talk once the season was over. They obviously used multiple sources on this and may have had to wait on some

Whether this article was released 3 months ago or today shouldn’t take the focus off what the article is about.

I agree with that in terms of Judge, who seems to be more suited for ST or defense, getting guys jacked up to hit, but not the nuances of offense.

Matty P as a HC in Detroit wasn't popular with players, but I haven't heard of many Patriot players complaining about him until this, and it seems to be mainly about x's and o's.

You’d think these 2 would learn a little humility after what happened in NY and DET. With Judge it looks like he’s the same loudmouth arrogant ***hole he was in NY. Patricia seems like he was in way over his head.

This article proves this isn't the case. It was neither a bridge nor tank. It was an overestimation of the talent of the coaching staff.
Seems like it was essentially him thinking it was an overestimation of how hard it was to coach offense and a quarterback.

Lemme guess ... is it the same someone who twisted himself into a pretzel finding ways to condemn Mac for everything?
