Inside the most dysfunctional Pats season under BB

Really sad state of affairs in Foxborough. After the smooth operation that has benefitted players for two decades, it stings / stinks to have an entire year of frustration and mistakes.

Hope the new season offers fans better viewing. BOB should help, but I dunno if he’s a quick fix, as it seems the team has lots to sort out.

I guess we could take Jax as an example : Pederson cleans a mess, gets his team a playoff win soon after replacing a train wreck.
But...

Pederson was replaced by a guy that had to clean Pederson's trainwreck, and that guy has his team on the verge of a Super Bowl... so...

The depth of dysfunction that article portrayed would get any other HC in the league fired.

I’ve been a BB guy for a LONG time, but even I’m not sure I’d have kept him if I was RK seeing that disaster unfold.

Barring a deep playoff run, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to say could be the final year for Bill.

Orlando Brown or McGlinchey would give us nice book ends to pair with Mount Brown. We have Three Fourth Rounders to fill some Needs. We have done historically well with Fourth Rounders. I don't mind a Offensive Tackle early one but I want one of those young TE's also.
"Mount"Brown? Are you freaking serious?
Trent Brown SUCKS! The only worse starting OL was Wynn.
I dont EVAH wanna see him in Pats uni.
More like "Molehill" Brown. Useless, fat lazy

What do you think the plan was?
You remember how after Patricia left, who was the DC, Bill left his title unfilled and rolled w/ Flore-Steve? Then he continued w/ Mayo-Steve? That there's still no DC in Foxboro since 2017?

He put Patricia-Judge in charge of the offense w/o OC titles. You see w/o an official title you don't have to waste Bill's time following the Rooney Rule and you get to choose who you want, how you want, unannounced.

That was the plan. I agree, it was a sh*tty f*cked up plan, but that's what he rolled with. There is zero evidence of anything else but what actually happened, which matches what has been happening on the other side of the ball for 5 years. The only reason BoB is here, is because the plan, as expected by everyone not dumb, blind, or stupid, failed miserably and the Krafts stepped in and told Bill: enough w/ your BS, we're doing it the right way.

I can't remember any Pats teams where coaches not players were the locker room cancer. This is the first in a really long time if it ever happened before.
Corwin Brown was the last time it happened.

Yea, that's not what happened.

Can't believe I'm saying this, but you may be right.

Was Judge a ****head during his ST stint with the Patriots? I truly don't get how someone can go from ST coach to HC, suddenly become an *******, then an abysmally bad ******* HC, get chased out of town, and still be an ******* when he looks decisively incompetent upon arrival to his new team.

Judge could have held his ego in check and then let it go rampant. People's minds can do strange things once they've been in a position of power.

Saddest thing of this article? The media called out Bill and hiring Patricia/judge last spring!

And he just snorted and still made the poor decision anyway. I give him credit for admitting his mistake and hiring BOB. BUT he wasted a year because he thought he was smarter than everyone else in not hiring a real OC which he could've done and it's a totally different season

That's the kind of stuff that gets coaches fired. Not that I'm advocating for it

Or. He was human and listened to two guys who'd performed well previously when they told him they could handle it.

Thanks for the post. ALL Kraft companies, there are lots, are required to present a yearly business plan, strategy, and budget. What you outline above is not a business plan or strategy

I am not saying the plan was good, and it very very bad, but every Kraft company has a plan presented to the Kraft family management team. Lots of people do not think there was a bridging plan, which is fine, but everyone who says there was not a bridging plan, can not offer what plan was put in place.

It is easy to criticize, hard to figure things out.

Not a mistake, and the Herald has issued an update to the story that this thread is based on:

Time to send that guy packing, IMO.

Interesting that the Herald says that Judge is expected to be there but NBC says neither will be there.

As was posted after your post.

Yea, that's not what happened.
Pederson 4 wins in last season with Philly. 2 seasons later Philly = Super Bowl bound

That's exactly what happened

I'm a big believer in all-time elite QB continuity. All that other stuff doesn't work as much without it.

Yeah, that works well for maybe two or three teams in any given season and guarantees nothing. Seriously, if you think having an elite quarterback is the only path to success you're going to be disappointed more often than not.

This new information could have all easily been obtained over the course of the last month.
Bedard has been alluding to it all along, but never spilled the beans with the kind of details in the Herald article. Makes me wonder about the beat reporters, with the exception of The Herald. Are the afraid to report the real story?

Pederson’s ‘train wreck’ included a SB trophy. Urban’s train wreck included a college girl’s lap dance after he left the team to take a private flight to his bar in Ohio.

I think that’s a pretty big gap…

You can't even bring Judge back as ST coach if this is accurate. He's done here. I could see Matty P joining Alabama as a favor to Bill.
You think Saban would bring in a coach he didn't fully trust just as a favor to Bill? And what does Bill owe Matt anyway that he has to call in favors for him?

Anyone who said that is a moron. And that’s even without using 20/20 hindsight. The physical traits are off the charts with Lawrence and he’s made huge strides, mentally, with even more room to grow. But if you DID want to use 20/20 hindsight, Mac slid multiple times before the first down marker on key third downs this season. On a key third down against the Chiefs, Lawrence lowered his shoulder and ran through the tackler. That says a lot.
Jaguars were 9-8. Patriots were 8-9 with a dysfunctional coaching staff. Facts.

I'm not saying Meyer is a better coach than Pederson. I'm saying Sirianni and Pederson both took over 3 or 4 win teams and improved them vastly in one year, and in Sirianni's case, the 2 year jump has him atop the NFL.
