Hi,

My Dad notified me that one of his friends is looking to let go of his Patriots season tickets and through out a feeler to see if I would be interested.

There is one thing that I definitely would want clarified. I am not sure if letting go of his tickets means...

1.) I want to remaing a season ticket holder but sell my tickets this year

or....

2.) I am willing to give up all rights to the tickets and therefore the tickets now go to the new owner.

My dad thinks it's the second point, but I wasn't sure if that was possible. I thought that season tickets couldn't be transferred to another person, and instead go back into the pool.

Would anyone be able to confirm or deny the fact that season tickets can be transferred to a person selected by the current holder?

I'm pretty sure the Patriots do not allow transfer of season tickets, except between family members. This is to prevent people from selling the rights to the tickets on eBay and stuff like that.

"All season ticket sales are final and no refunds or exchanges will be made. Season ticket accounts cannot be transferred or split, except as specifically permitted in limited circumstances under the 'Pass It On Transfer Program.'" The Pass It On program provides, "Tenured Season Ticket Holders can transfer an account to a family member or individual who has been sharing an account in prior years for FREE."

Posters above are right. The Pats do not allow season ticket holders to transfer their tickets to someone other than a close family member (and they've only been allowing that for a few years without a hefty payment). If you wanted to "acquire" those tickets, they would have to stay in your friend's name, he would have to pay for them and you would have to pay him back. I think a lot of people do this, but then if you are counting on the tickets, you are subject to the whims of your friend - i.e. is he willing to keep renewing the tickets in his name for years to come and only sell them to you?

New to the site so please take my comments about all those nice enough to offer an opinion as friendly. Some of the posters here are kind of right but kind of way wrong at the same time.

My two cents for what it's worth... the Patriots have a Pass It On program that you may be able to take advantage of (free of any charges) where the seats could be put in your name IF
1. Your friend has had the season ticket account for over ten years
and
2. They can show that you are a family member or friend that has been going to games with the transferring party over a period of time.

I used to have 10 season tickets and now I'm down to four thanks to the Pass It On program. I was able to take care of a family member but mostly friends, at no cost. The ticket office had been allowing changes for roughly $1500 per seat change before the PIO program. Now it's free if you meet the criteria.
If your friend has NOT had the seats for at least ten years yet then have them continue to renew their tickets but you should pay them for their seats by check so you can make the change when they become eligible.
The Pats don't want folks selling their tickets (and the ticket seniority that goes with them) to random fans for possibly thousands on the side and the Pass It On program does a good job of keeping that in check from what I experienced.
So there is hope for you to get those seats in your name if you can meet the criteria. Best of luck to you!!!

Good to know - I thought you could only pass them to immediate family members. Thanks for posting.
