Honestly blaming Gronk is silly in so many levels but think abt the conflict of interest. Sure you want to know what he's thinking but he's the player, not someone making decisions abt depth, the future etc.

Gronk also wasn't even very good last year except as a third tackle, so it's not like there wasn't a need at tight end regardless of Gronk''s decision. Gambling on Lacosse would be fine as a second or third tight end but he should never have been in a position to start (or split reps with Ben Watson's shambling corpse).

Cook's a good blocker and his stats with the Saints, where he was essentially the fourth or fifth option, would have made him the third leading receiver on the Patriots... and led the team in touchdown receptions.

The Patriots were absolutely abysmal in the red zone this year (more than anything else, this was the offense's biggest failing; they scored a touchdown on half their red zone trips - the Ravens scored 1 additional touchdown per 5 trips and missed a ton fewer field goals, and the Titans scored 1 more per 4 trips).

It would have mattered. The Titans obscene red zone efficiency basically explains their presence in the playoffs.
