I'll admit i was wrong - Amendola didn't work

Well, supposedly, Amendola is faster and quicker than Welker. If that was true, Amendola would be open (for a pass thrown to him) more often than Welker.

And if Amendola is mostly open, Brady would throw to him.

1 pass in the Broncos game. 1 drop in the Broncos game.
Although just cause he could be faster and quicker doesn't mean he know's how to get open

Just a horrible signing. One that will haunt the team as it probably means they can't keep Edelman without making a huge sacrifice to another position group that really needs help

I'm not reading all the pages of this.

Suffice to say the Patriots did not have enough receiving weapons this season.

That doesn't mean Amendola is a bust - it means he can't do it alone.

They do have some young players who COULD develop into explosive deep threats, but Belichick can't go into next season leaving that to chance.

That being said, they've got a lot of youth with potential and I expect Belichick to stick with a lot of the guys he's got.

People oversell that Buffalo game, and Reiss is doing that here. He had 6 of his 10 catches in the last two drives. That's a nice stretch, but it's not like he was a monster all game long, or anything remotely like that.

The numbers are beside the point, it was his ability to be explosive in and out of cuts. He showed the same ability throughout the preseason and throughout his career when healthy. After that game, he couldn't really do anything but run in a straight line and run rounded routes. That's a big problem for a slot receiver.

He is neither faster nor quicker than Welker with half of his groin hanging off of his leg. At all other times, he is.

Pretty much everyone with any kind of football knowledge knew that to be the case. They were awful signings and money wasted.

Could you take a minute out of your busy Senior Bowl schedule and share with the board how much money was wasted?

BTW, I heard the gumbo is fantastic in Mobile. Enjoy.

I agree with just about everything you said but to say Amendola can't do it alone reasonably implies he had a big impact this season and other players need to perform at his level. DA had a couple of nice games but was mostly an underwhelming gimp.

Hey, maybe we should have multiple threads and thousands of posts about how best to use all of the money the Patriots saved by Hernandez getting arrested for murder and how best to use those cap savings?

Oh wait, that has absolutely no basis in reality either.

In that case maybe we should wait until releasing Amendola is actually a realistic possibility instead of simply acting like this is fantasy football and pretending they can release him.

Or maybe we can start talking about trading the Patriots defense for Calvin Johnson? We could simply draft the SeaHawks defense right at draft night at Jakes house right before the season starts and use them.

Are you going to post the quotes from you objecting to the Amendola signing when they made it or did i miss them somehow?

Ivan- you are implying this poster is a hypocrite but even it that's is true it doesn't make his Amendola critique inaccurate by default.

I think it's great that I have my own pet troll. Do you fetch, too?

I didn't call him a hypocrite I asked him to show his objections when they signed him, which is perfectly reasonable when someone is ripping a signing.

As for the "Amendola critique" it is incredibly easy to critique any signing when the player gets injured the first week and plays on one leg for the entire season, so people can bash away all they like but if they didn't object at the time then they are just monday morning quarterbacking and imo that's just bullsh.t. I have no problem with it if they acknowledge they were wrong but simply pointing fingers and pretending to know better is garbage.

...and I expect Belichick to stick with a lot of the guys he's got.

He has little choice. Cutting Toughglass is cost-prohibitive, and Dropson & Joyce are high-profile
draft picks who aren't going anywhere next season, except to the trainer's table.

Signing Minitron is a must; so the question should then become, who will the other 2 WRs be?
One of those 2 should be a young vet, not one of Bill's typical cash-grabbing useless geezers.

The thing is, though, that this season it was his groin & a concussion; what will it be next season?
Because we all know that it wil be something next season too.

It's an interesting critique when you're advocating signing Edelman, who had missed 18 games over 4 seasons before finally staying healthy this year. I'm not saying it's wrong, but that extrapolating based on the past can sometimes be fraught.

And that evaluating a player based on his production in a single game - which is what this thread appears to be about - can be equally fraught.

Why should we sign Edelman.
1) The guy has turned into an elite slot receiver. He's gotten better every game. He's got great hands and more importantly his route running has been exceptional as the season has gone on. Watch the early games and the last few his YAC is elite. He's gotten better and better
2) Ultimate Patriot - he's an elite punt returner and been Mr Patriot since the likes of a Troy Brown
3) He's Brady's go to guy. We lost Wes and that hurt TB. Brady trusts him, that counts in my book

Amendola was healthy on both legs last game where he played 42 snaps, Brady only threw to him once which he dropped. Stop using the injury excuse. Also there were a lot of posters calling out this horrible signing back then so stop rewriting history.

He's due for a healthy season. We might as well hope that it's this one, because his contract means that he's probably not going anywhere.

I think you fail to see that Edelman has replaced Amendola

Did they cut Amendola, say that Edelman would be running his routes, and say that they'd look for a different player to run Edelman's routes? I don't recall that press conference taking place.
