If you could add any player in the NFL to the Pats...

That was not the prevailing view on this board early last season.
I wasn't here last season on this forum to know what views were taken. But, after the shock of Brady going down last season subsided, that was my view on the situation. I'm not knocking Cassell, and I woulda loved for the Pats to have kept him, for an "insurance". I hope he goes on to a wonderful career, unfortunately for him, I'm not sure he'll have that opportunity, where he is now.

definitely demarcus ware

offense: Michael Pittman
Defense: Dhani Jones

Patrick Willis. Him and Mayo together in the middle. Not fair.

Harrison,LB for the Steelers.

... if salary were no factor, who would it be? DeMarcus Ware, Ed Reed, Adrian Peterson, Larry Fitzgerald are just a few names that popped into my mind.

A big *sigh* to the first person that says Peppers.

Ed Reed

10 Char

Prolly Harrison of Pitt

Count me in on the D. Ware bandwagon.. He's crazy..

Defense: I'd take Ed Reed
Offense: I'd take Peyton Manning to be Brady's backup

Defense: Ed Reed...Highly intelligent, disciplined and classy
Offense: Adrian Peterson...too bad he's playing for the Vikings. Maybe he'll get jaded like Moss and will want a trade to the Patriots. Imagine, Brady, Moss, Welker, Tate, PETERSON...

DeMarcus Ware on D without a doubt and my first choice.

On offense we don't need a running back, I'll take Larry Fitzgerald and dare anybody to outscore us and expect to beat the '07 touchdown count.

I mean Welker, Fitzgerald and Moss, just awesome.

I'm surprised there is so much discrepancy. I thought Suggs was a no-brainer.

On offense, Joe Thomas or Adrian Peterson

No offense to Cassell, as he did great last year, but, I think damn near any able armed QB could run our offense...Just my opinion...

Then why =did that football ignorant fool Pioli rush to spend a 2nd round pick and $16M to sign him? Think.

Addition by subtraction from the Colts, or as a veteran unexperienced OLB?

BTW I excluded Merriman from my initial list because it would be like adding Darth Vader to the rebel alliance.

Simply put, I have never seen a better pure pass rusher then Freeney.

I realize he is not perfect. He would be a liablity against the run and probably in coverage as he would be an outside linebacker in NE.

But at strictly rushing the passer, I have never seen anybody better. I'm sure you can point to a time or two where he has been succesfully single teamed (Orlando Pace), But the overwhelming majority of times that Freeney has been held in check has been due to teams focusing extra players on him. And by simply drawing the extra attention he allows lesser players (Robert Mathis) to excell.

The colts have had one of the best passing defenses in the league with some a less then notable secondary.

I have to believe Freeney is a major reason for that.

I know there run defense suffered, but I think with Warren Wilfork and Seymour, the run defense would be more then adequate.

Ohh, my second would be Ed Reed!

On offense...protect the GOAT franchise. Put Clady at LT amd move Light to RT. Brady has that extra second or two to throw. Result, Death from Above to the opposition.

On defense, shore up the weak positions...Nnamdi Asomugha. A good arguement for an elite OLB pass rusher as an alternative can easily be made.

Ware would be a clear #1 on my wish list.

Ed Reed would be #2.

Not sure I would have an offensive player in the top 20 given the current make-up of the roster.

Then why =did that football ignorant fool Pioli rush to spend a 2nd round pick and $16M to sign him? Think.

A 2nd round pick, for a QB that has already proven he can play at the NFL level, isn't that expensive. Its better than drafting some Joe Schmoe out of college and HOPING he can play at an NFL level. Hell, I'm not knocking Cassell at all, but many mediocre QBs could play at a higher level on our team because of the greatness of our team and coaching...

Add Patrick Willis to my list as well... though it'd be really hard to turn down Demarcus Ware or Easy Ed Reed. Good thoughts on adding Joe Thomas or Jake Long... what about someone like Antonio Gates - would the offense ever punt?
