If we franchise Mankins, how does that impact our draft?

Is the threat of legal action by the players association going to scare teams from using their franchise tag?

Nope, they'll use it and let things play out. No team can sign anyone now anyways.

I said the EXACT SAME THING as #3. I was told I was comedic relief by one of the village homers around here. He says Todd Light will get 10M a year here or somewhere else as he is one of the top LTs in the league. Laughable. Light would be a good guard. Carimi would be a great RT and a good LT. Aldon SMith, Carimi, LeShoure, Watkins (with dallas #2 got for mankins), Ballard....that's my first 5 picks.

Watkins could come in here and be better than mankins DAY ONE.

Yep, a rookie from a mediocre college program will be a Day 1 All-Pro guard and even better, this rookie All-Pro will be available at # 40.... may I please have what you are drinking as it is some really good stuff.

Now if you said that the gap in ability between Mankins and a rookie guard is less than $9 million dollars for the first year, and narrows over the life of the rookie's contract, you have an argument. However, that is not your statement, you believe there are plenty of Day 1 All-Pros in this draft so that one of them will slip to the second round for the Pats to grab with the second round pick of another team that is also looking for a first day of training camp 2011 All-Pro guard but is willing to pay that person $10 million plus in cap charges and $20 million plus in 3 year guaranteed cash.

I'm ready to give the pick back to them and go double or nothing for next year.

Seriously, I want a re-do,they played well and got lucky sweeping their division. This years schedule is brutal and 5-11 sounds closer to the mark.

Home =chiefs, broncos, chargers, bills, dolphins, packers, vikings, browns.

away=chiefs broncos, chargers, Patriots, jets, bears, lions, texans

This team will get waxed almost every Sunday imo

NICE.

Better yet: Offer them #33 and toss in #156 or so for their 2012 1st and this year's #81. :rocker:

They'd be paying a Premium, but I do believe that we will GET a Premium for #33, if we choose to move it.

Reportedly, this is incorrect. Shaun Rogers, for example, is reportedly free to sign immediately.

Yup. Any player who is not currently under contract - for any of the remainder of the 2010 league year - including those who have been officially cut or whose contracts have voided (including Asomugha, I think), are all effectively "street free agents and can be signed at any time.

However, since it's not officially yet the "off-season" and roster limits (AFAIK) are still at 53 and 2010 IR'd players are still officially on IR.............

Interesting, I thought free agency was on hold until a new CBA was in place.

Until March 3rd the existing CBA is still in effect and players like Rogers who have been "released" by their teams are free to sign as they see fit. Should there be no CBA out of the week of arbitrated discussions and March 3rd departs with no resolution, then there is no mechanism for signing Free Agents, including undrafted kids. Arguably draft prospects can be signed as a result of the outgoing CBA allowing for the draft, but I'd also expect sticking points there.
