If Schuster Looks Good In Camp

do you agree that Polk, Baker and Pop have to get snaps?
Do you agree that Bourne is better than JuJu?
why keep JuJu to maybe be game day active, maybe not, taking away practice time for players who will be here next year and beyond?
Seems like everybody have career lows with the Mac Jones lead Patriots gotta throw that year or years out the window...the WR's have an excuse. I think we are going be surprised and happy with our WR's.

no, not at all.
According to an article recently posted here it was a ridiculous amount of bets. About 5 thousand bets if memory serves right---and that's just what they could find. Given his age when this happened, it means he placed at least 5 thousand bets in a very short time.

That kind of gambling addiction is no joke.

It remains to be seen if Bourne will be ready, even if he is, he might be like Juju last year. Not strong enough in that rehabbing knee and less than Bourne of days past. He might not look like his old self until next season. The only good thing he has going for him was he got injured and had surgery way earlier than Juju. Juju played in the super bowl the year before last, was playing through the injury, he had to wait until the offseason to get surgery.

Polk, Baker… we have no clue what they will contribute. They also need a role model in front of them to show them the proper way to prepare and practice like a pro. “Cut Juju now” is pure stupidity. That’s a decision you make down the road when all the youngsters show they’re ready to contribute… not now. Even then you trade him, not cut him. Some fans have no clue how the cap or player development works.
Good post I still can't get over how thick Thornton looks Boney T no more he really worked on his body this offseason and it shows. Really good work ethic from him I saw him on a workout tape and he looks really good in his release packages. IF Thornton gets' that part of his game down he will justify that Second Round Selection. He has two wasted years here hopefully he makes the third year jump with the new regime good health to him of course.

Beyond health he should benefit from potentially a better offensive line and more importantly a QB that can throw it 80 yards.

His only skill is the deep ball and red zone, Mac could only throw it 7 yards so he wasn’t the guy.

I want TT to get a real chance this year, I hope the coaches give him a real opportunity. They could use a deep threat to open up the underneath stuff.

honestly, if JuJu is better than Boutte on Sept 1, I still want Boutte on the team getting practice reps, learning the offense, learning Maye. Boutte could have a shot in 2025. JuJu does not have that shot in 2025
I want neither of them.

Except it was almost certainly other people betting THROUGH him, or more likely even, through his computer without anything on his part. Probably why the whole thing was dropped.

I think concerns about Boutte are mostly about coachability and motivation, but the concerns about Baker run deeper. Bedard seems to think he’s a ticking time bomb.
Never seen a choir boy that ended up being a great player!

JuJu has never looked as good as his NFL Freshman and Sophomore years.

He needs a Star to play opposite of him to have any semblance of success.

2017
JuJu 79 targets 917 yards 7 TDs @ 73% catch rate.
AB 163 targets 1533 yards 9 TDs @ 62% catch rate.

2018
JuJu 166 targets 1426 yards 9 TDs @ 67% catch rate.
AB 168 targets 1297 yards 15 TDs @ 62% catch rate.

Big year with the Chiefs - I suppose - and a HOF QB tossing the ball his way opposite a HOF TE/WR hybrid.
While it was classless, AB called him out on that.

9.6 million if they release him. They can afford it.
Oh for sure. Either make a move or stand pat and go with the guys you have.. wolf needs to do something...

I'm not sure what you mean.

Yes, Wolf should decide whether he is trading, but that situation will not really happen. He will always be looking for upgrades.

As far as "standing pat", I don't know what that means. We have NINE WR's competing for roster spots.

Meaning make the move for ayuik or go with what we have. We likely as currently constructed have a better WR group than Allen has in Buffalo.

Don't forget zapster as well...

If, if's were a 5th we'd all be drunk...

doesn't that cry out even more so for a WR like Aiyuk, Higgins? Especially if the cost is a 3rd? or a 2026 2nd?
play Polk, Pop, Baker and Aiyuk day 1 WITH Maye. let the new offense start rolling immediately
finish the offense next season with a LT drafted in rd 1

If Schuster looks good in camp (top 3), it would seem somehow wrong to lose cap money to cut him.

One option is to trade Osborn. As another posted noted, Osborn was sign to a 1-year contract when we had almost no one. Since then, we've added Polk and Baker, plus Shuster is looking good (and perhaps even Thornton is looking good).

We have Bourne and the 3 kids. We have room for one veteran to be a starting WR. There is no need for any more WR's unless we keep someone while Bourne is not yet available.

The dead cap hit would be like $12m for JJSS, but it's just for this year, and if they're not likely to win that many games this year, eating that money now in order to free themselves up next year isn't the worst thing in the world.

JJSS looks good, that'll mean he has some value to a team in need of a playoff-tested veteran WR who still has something in the tank. Maybe NE could get a 3rd round pick for him or something useful like that. Eat the money, free up a WR spot for a younger player, pick up a draft pick in the process. Not the worst thing.

That would leave:

Osborn - 27
Boutte - 22
Thornton - 23
Douglas - 23
Bourne - 28 (about to be 29 in a few days)
Polk - 22
Baker - 22

Bourne and Osborn would be the veterans. Everyone else is really young. I wouldn't mind this group at all (though one would have to be cut).
