If patriots lose out, Travis Hunter could be theirs

I think it would be a waste. If you don't have a pass rush, receivers are going to get open. And do you need a shutdown CB to cover most of the #2 WRs in this league?

The Pats have far too many needs in key positions to use a top 5 pick on CB when you already have what may be one of the top 2-3 CBs in the league in a year or two. The Pats need an edge rusher on defense the most. They need an #1 WR and LT on the other side.

Another shutdown CB is a luxury pick that the Pats cannot afford to make. There have been many teams who have been in the position to draft a CB with lockdown potential high when they have one already on the roster and it never actually happens. It is because you do not need a shutdown CB going up against #2s and #3s consistently.

I totally agree. The way the game is played today favoring the offense WR always get open or draw flags. You need a strong defensive line more than a strong secondary, I know a top safety and a lockdown corner sometimes make game winning plays but you need to pressure the QB all the time if you want to win games with your defense.

I still am not sure if the tackle will mount to anything. Give me McMillan or Hunter or will Johnson or Graham. No trade down . We need blue chippers. We have maye, gonzo and barmore for now.
Anyone on that list but Hunter.

Offensive line. Everything else is BS. Win the line of scrimmage first. Fancy fantasy WRs later. Coaching is problematic with this team still, but let's fix the OL and maybe then everyone on the coaching staff gets a lot smarter. (IE everyone is a genius when they win)

I'm not familiar with Hunter's game but i think another shutdown CB to pair with Gonzalez would make the difference a championship caliber defense and that's definitely worth their #1 pick
Then that would be Will Johnson out of Michigan.

A lot of talk about fixing the line in free agency, I think that's easier said than done. There aren't generally a lot of quality linemen floating around to be had and most teams always have some sort of need on the line so everyone is on the hunt. The guys that are on the trade block are usually at the end of their career or trying to comeback after a bad injury. I think its easier to find wide receivers in free agency rather then linemen particularly LT. I think I'm in the category of taking a linemen as our first pick in the draft, not necessarily the current #3 pick but that should be our top priority position wise. Protect the franchise!
Agree. It’s more difficult to get starting OT’s in FA that can contribute for multiple years. I prefer they draft Will Campbell and sign Tee Higgins.

And if they can't block they'll still suck.

They need an offensive line, weapons be damned.
Agree but Campbell looks like the only OT who is worth taking over Hunter.

If Wolf does what all the Al Davis's want, and picks Hunter around #3, I'll boycott the team.

Please tell me this personnel staff has learned something this year - we need an overhaul in the trenches!
A top ranked OL will make average WR's & RB's look great. A top ranked DL wins games.

Don't waste a top draft pick on a WR or CB. Trade it for 2 1st round talents - and get a LT and a DE.
Trade down to what spot? If the miss out on Campbell my enthusiasm for drafting an OT in the top 10 drops fairly abruptly.

Like trading the McConkey pick for TWO Wrs?

Yes, the Pats need a franchise LT but you can’t draft what isn’t there.

If they could slide down to like 5th with a plan of taking Hunter, Tet or Campbell (whoever is left) they could still get a nice extra pick plus a potential blue chip player.

Hopefully Campbell is an NFL LT but even if he has to become an RT or a guard, he will be very good regardless and this team needs line help at almost every spot.

That said I would prefer to go WR1 and then snag a tackle with the second pick, trading up if necessary. You can probably buy a solid guard in FA.

When is the last time you saw a Defense with 2 shutdown CBs at all? You think Belichick wouldn't have loved having 2 shutdown CBs?

Also a lot of teams #2 WRs are still pretty elite. Talented WRs are becoming a lot more common than elite CBs.

There are rarely more than 5 shutdown CBs in the league in a given year.

You saying you would rather have an Andre Carter or Roddy White than a Darrelle Revis just because you want to fill need?

A Revis might be a luxury but if that is the only talent that looks worthy of a top 5 pick take him.

Belichick would have loved two shutdown CBs, but not at the expense of the rest of teams. On defense, Belichick always tried to have a well rounded roster. He rarely overloaded talent at one position.

And most teams do not have elite #2 WRs. Most most don't. It is still a rarity.

The Pats have their Darrelle Revis on the roster. But you have no idea that Hunter will be even good. How do you know if the player the Pats draft instead isn't going to be elite? I would rather have Andre Carter or Roddy White just because the Pats already have Darrelle Revis.

I would agree LT is the biggest priority (I think they aren't bad on the interior). I think the Pats can trade back a few spots and have their choice of tackle and could pick up a second rounder or more for the trouble.

If they go outside rusher, the top guys might be available since the trend in the draft is towards offense and defensive players fall.

If they are at #3, they could probably trade down and still get Tet McMillan.

But tackle isn't the best in the top spots. So you might be better off waiting until the second round. But I hope then they get an older guy in free agency LT for a stopgap measure. Not sure who is available.

Pats had Haynes in Clayborn way back when.

Those were two shutdown corners.

Hunter may be the best player available, but it's going to make the team very lopsided. You can't keep hoarding players at one position and expect to win. The Jets and Jaguars did this for years hoarding front 7 players and it got them nowhere. The 49ers did this, and were the most successful, but neglected their secondary which haunted them in every playoff loss they've had.

The Pats have a good enough CB in Gonzalez. They need to balance out the team in other areas.

Curious to see how Humphries looks for the Chiefs as the season drags on.

You’ll need to see what lines up directly ahead and directly behind the patriots. If a team wants to trade up 4-5 picks and give you their 1st, a third and a first next year you’d be dumb to pass that up. You have plenty of needs and the more draft picks the better

I like Hunter and think he can be a dynamic player, but if we improve the offense somewhat significantly via FA/trade (ex: Higgins, Metcalf or AJ Brown & 1-2 Tackles etc..) then I’d love to grab Abdul Carter with the 3rd pick. That bend, speed, closing speed & pursuit looks special.

Id rather draft a stud WR/WRs. This is BS when you watch a team like the Rams shred the Bills defense with guys they drafted that are studs.

Drafting OL is going to take time to acclimate to the NFL game. Address OL through FA so that you get instant results there.

I was upset about that and got greeted with big deal he’s a jag he’s not better than what we have. Some people are just always wrong.
