I think it would be a waste. If you don't have a pass rush, receivers are going to get open. And do you need a shutdown CB to cover most of the #2 WRs in this league?
The Pats have far too many needs in key positions to use a top 5 pick on CB when you already have what may be one of the top 2-3 CBs in the league in a year or two. The Pats need an edge rusher on defense the most. They need an #1 WR and LT on the other side.
Another shutdown CB is a luxury pick that the Pats cannot afford to make. There have been many teams who have been in the position to draft a CB with lockdown potential high when they have one already on the roster and it never actually happens. It is because you do not need a shutdown CB going up against #2s and #3s consistently.
I totally agree. The way the game is played today favoring the offense WR always get open or draw flags. You need a strong defensive line more than a strong secondary, I know a top safety and a lockdown corner sometimes make game winning plays but you need to pressure the QB all the time if you want to win games with your defense.
