If patriots lose out, Travis Hunter could be theirs

This is what I'm saying! He's not going to bobble it off his hands for a pick.

I have serious questions about Shedeur after watching that. Those throws are terrible.

I thought that most of us agreed that we had slot receiver covered well and the only non-slot receiver we have is Boutte. So, yes I would consider signing a free agent to be our #2 receiver behind our $25M AAV WR.

If we take Hunter after signing a top free safety, our secondary would be set with Gonzo and Hunter. With a $25M WR on board, Hunter would provide us much more value at CB.

I think Hunter provides explosion we just don't have at the WR position, and no FA in this class is likely to fix that. On top of that, no matter how good the secondary would be, WRs would still get open because of the complete lack of pass rush from the front 7.

So, you're presuming that with $130M to spend that we won't seriously improve our pass rush? How about the top EDGE rusher plus a stud on the DL to replace Ekuale. That's two players. I expect at least 4, including the corner, which could be Hunter.

After last offseason I don't presume much....Wolf seems to want to build through the draft, he supposedly put big offers on the table for a couple FAs, but those didn't work out...in FA it takes team interest, player interest, and money to make a deal happen. Now the last two are frequently one and the same, but we'll see if the front office can actually land anyone this offseason, I'm not counting on it until it actually happens.

The three best edges that are currently do to be FAs are Khalil Mack, Josh Sweat, Haason Reddick. I can see Mack is nearing the end of his career and can see him going ring chasing; Sweat I would think the Eagles would try to resign him after trading Reddick before the season; Reddick maybe the one of the three that is a real possibility, but he is now 30 and can see Wolf thinking he is too old for this team.

It is easy to say positions will improve in FA, all the fan bases say it, but the reality is not alot of really go players hit FA, and when they do they have their choices of where to go.

That’s not getting a 1st and a 2nd, that’s swapping your first for a worse 1st round pick, for a 2nd round pick in a weak draft. No thanks. What another team wants to do with that pick is irrelevant, if they want it then it takes a 1st round pick in either this draft ( which means 2 1st round picks) or a 1st in next year’s draft.

You're confused. You get a first in exchange for trading back.

So you move back 4 slots and pick up a first, a second and and another pick for your troubles.

Let's look beyond the very top free agents. We are one of 32 teams competing for say 100 free agents. We should be able to get more than anyone else. But yes, we do need what we can get from the top 10 or so, perhaps at WR and S.

I believe that Higgins might want to come for a AVP's offense. And yes, we need to sign a couple of the OT's from the top 25. Several safeties are there. I think that Wolf will be looking to sign defensive players to 3-year contracts, Reddick is a fine choice. I think that Wolf will double dip if he can at more than one position.

$130M buys a lot of hits and misses, and a lot of 3 year contracts. an EDGE, 2 WR, 2 OT, 2 DB, and a couple of DL's will be a good start, and I think doable.

Three-year contracts would have us signing players for the rest of Maye's rookie contract. After 2027, hopefully the team will be relying on the players drafted in the next 3 years (plus the last 2 who have been extended). We COULD have a competitive team regularly expected to be in the playoffs and compete for the division and conference.

I don't see anything where you or Ivan specified a compensation for a trade back, except you mentioning the Carolina/Bears trade that Carolina got Young from.....if you are expecting that compensation I think you are going to very disappointed.

I compared the value of the trade I wanted to that if what Washington gave you for rg3 and and Panthers have up for young.

It was pretty clear I did not say we trade our top 3 pick for a future 1st.

I’m not confused, I specifically asked you if what you got in exchange was their first round pick and a 2nd round pick, and you said “ yup.”

That means that all you get is a worse 1st round pick plus a second rounder. You didn’t add a second 1st round pick.

If I am the one making the decision on trading #3 overall then I’m not budging without getting a first round pick in return, and not the one involved n swapping picks. Getting a 2nd round pick in this weak draft to move out of 3 is a horrible deal.

Pats lose out. Raiders beat the Jags this weekend. Boom... Pats have #2 pick.

Trade the pick to Carolina for their 1st and 2nd round picks (at least) because Panthers need a QB. Take Travis Hunter and an OT with those picks.

Not sure the Panthers would do that, there are 2 QB's, Ward and Sanders. Carolina at #2 would get 1 of them.

You do open up the chance for some trade as Titans, Browns and Raiders may want to trade up but then a question of how badly, the QB's available are second round talents that teams will reach for, but not sure many teams will think they are worth trading up for.

Raiders have such a bad SOS tie breaker, 1 win they go from #1 to maybe 5 or 6, I think they make sure they lose.

This is what the Panther's gave up:

1.01 for 1.09, 2.61, 1.01 in '24, a 2nd in '25; and DJ Moore .... I'll just say we aren't getting anything in that realm.

I agree, but the minimum for moving off of 3 should be the swap of 1st round picks and a 1st in 26’, at a minimum.

This cracks me up, like you’re speaking in the definitive, like you already know what will happen with Hunter’s career. So ridiculous. The draft is a crapshoot in many ways, a lot of times, it depends on situations, if a player is put in the right position to succeed. But, to say he’s not the best WR or best CB, He won the Heisman, he won the Biletnikoff as the nations BEST RECEIVER, he won the Bednarik award as the BEST DEFENSIVE PLAYER. He won the AP Top college player award.

For a team not to consider him as a full time receiver is just stupid. He had 92 catches, over 1100 yards and 14 TD catches. He could easily be an NFL Pro Bowl receiver. But because he’s an excellent CB, there’s value in playing him both ways.

My thoughts are, you figure out how you think he fits into your system. If you feel he’s a better WR, you play him 100% as a receiver, and you sprinkle in some key defensive snaps. If you feel he’s a better CB, you play him there 100% and sprinkle in a few key offensive plays, maybe 15-20 offensive snaps a game.

That’s what makes him so intriguing as a prospect. He’s obviously the best PLAYER in the draft. Can you get the most out of him is the biggest question.
Agreed. Hunter's talent is blue chip in every way. I say just draft the most talented player possible. See how he benefits your team the most then play him the most snaps at that position, and only key snaps in the other one. There's no such thing as too much talent. This guy has been compared to many top tier talents before such as Champ Bailey, a HOF cornerback.

There have been zero draft pundits who have said he will only be a 2nd tier cb and a 2nd tier WR in one body. No the tantalizing thing about his talent is he could be a pro bowler at either position at the NFL level.

"Bailey: He just loves football. You can see it by the way he plays -- he's the ultimate competitor. No player is going to last very long at one position, let alone two, if he doesn't love the game.

Travis is probably more refined in coverage than I was at that age. He has been schooled better at this point -- I mean, his coach is Deion Sanders, one of the best to ever play corner. His hands are in the right place, his eyes are in the right place, and he understands route concepts and where the ball is going. His interceptions are often because he's going to the spot he knows where the ball is going."

Article. Bailey gives his opinion on Hunter as well: Champ Bailey: What makes Travis Hunter so special -- and why he's going to have to pick a side

Then you misread what I originally wrote. No one is trading our first round pick in exchange for a second round pick. I certainly never wrote that.
