If it was the 2004 draft again

Basically, given our system, and roster, if Vince Wilfork turned out to be the best NT in NFL history and Steven Jackson turned out to be the best RB in NFL history, we shouldhave picked Vince.

Well-argued, and I think correct, even though RB is fundamentally the second-most important position on the field.

Aside from the first round (and the Corey Dillon trade), the Patriots 2004 NFL draft was a disaster.

Yes it was.

The real question should not be: Wilfork v. Jackson (Wilfork in a landslide, for reasons already stated), but instead: Watson v. Dansby.

I would then, and still would now, have drafted LB Karlos Dansby at the end of the 1st round. I then would have attempted to trade our 2nd- and 3rd-round picks to move up in the 2nd round to take Watson. The FO made a similar move in '06 to select Chad Jackson. Besides, it's not like that 3rd-rounder was used wisely, anyway.

Dansby's a UFA this summer... maybe we can have both, in the end?
