If Gronk was and is healthy...why wasn't he involved more?

He's your best weapon..and if he's out there..you have to get him involved more no? They did nothing like this on Sunday. Would it have won us the game? Probably not...but why not get him more involved?

great question

i have no idea what the **** is gronk is doing out there. seems like he's just going through the motions.
lets all hope that changes against the browns!

It didn't make any sense at all

Because he isn't healthy yet. Not completely. It didn't look like he was really getting open.

It seemed like a preseason game for him..like he wasn't going full speed at all

That hamstring injury is serious business for the long haul. Blocking doesn't put the strain on it the way accelerating and pushing off from tacklers that a receiver has to do.

Expert Interviews Hamstring Strain

The physical therpists are going by the book on time and treatment so that when Gronk is ready, he can go full speed. Eight weeks for a grade 2 hamstring strain. Fortunately they can be patient while Martellus Bennett carries the load.

When Gronk is ready, look out.

Health alone could be it, obviously.

Also, QBs not named Tom Brady can throw passes that put their receivers in harms way. Particularly young QBs. (but also Peyton Manning. )

IMHO between those two factors we weren't going to see much of Gronk until the GOAT's return.

Let's not get hasty here (Dale Arnold voice)

He was out there for what 39 snaps?

JE11 and Hogan didn't see the ball a lot either.

Kinda need to look at the film to see how many of those snaps were block vs pass. On the pass, how many did JB look in his direction and if so, was Gronk open?

I'm willing to bet it was mostly blocking reps and easy going crossing / out patterns

Trust factor ....... if he has to go start chasing less accurate throws, then he's going to get hit more

That and as long as they were winning, no need to rush him back.....it's a long season

On the field for 22 pass plays..went out 13 times..targeted twice...need to target him more than 2 times.

If his hammy is still bothering him..just keep him out. Bennett was doing fine the first 2 games without him.

I kept saying the entire game for Josh to get him involved more for big plays. Big catch radius..huge target like Bennett...could have helped out Jacoby a bit

QB still has to make the throw. On the Fumble, Gronk and Blount were wide open but we know what happened. Brady would have found Gronk.

I believe you. Curious on the source of the info?

Could be bad game plan or play calling. I doubt it.

Could be Gronk on JB are not on the same page

Could be the coaches feel Tom protects Gronk better . See WW and Manning.

He was used mostly in pass/run blocking. You have to keep in mind what the gameplan was and who was playing QB.

That will change once Brady returns. The Gronk/Bennett duo will be fully unleashed.

Hamstrings are notorious for taking an inordinately long amount of time to completely heal. Even when you think they're healed, next thing you know the player re-aggravates it and he's out for even longer. AFAIC Gronk can take all the time he needs easing his hammy back to its normal workload. Hamstring injuries are not to be messed with.

Brissett attempted a few passes in the first half, and when he did pass he held the ball for a long time. As a result, Gronk was required to stay in and block a lot.

Let's wait and see how Gronk does with a QB who can run the Patriots' offense.

Based on the patterns he runs with great success (seam routes) and the timing involved it didn't look like they ran many of those plays for him. Now that Brady is back I think you'll see more of those patterns for him based on Brady not putting him in bad positions when the ball is delivered.

Is this now the third thread about something pretty obvious?

@goheels22002 gave great summary of why the coaching staff correctly isnt rushing him - especially after a 3:1 start into the season.

Add in the words BB said a year ago (?) about not having Gronk available in the postseason being gigantic difference makers and you should be able to put together that they will be extra careful with him.

So while some people are somehow concerned with a W4 game against the Bills the staff is looking at the big picture.

Finally, the reason why he is on the field at all is simple: conditioning in a real game environment. Football players play football but that doesn't mean you have to send him down the seam when there is no reason to risk it.

Like others said, get ready to see more of him against the Browns with Brady back and then for a vintage performance against the Bengals.

The scenario that fits for me is that they expected or game planned for JG to play and when they realized that he couldn't they scratched him which threw the whole game plan into a tail spin.

Either way I'm sure Gronk will be Gronk in a few weeks.
