I know this was posted in a thread before but I feel like the guy deserves his own thread, he is a freaking rockstar of a player. I knew he would be good but I never thought he would be this good so soon, the stats that Jones produces are godly enough but if you watch a game and you keep an eye on Jones he is a constant issue for the defense and he does things you do not see a lot of defensive ends do in terms of handwork, etc.

In my opinion seeing Pierre-Paul and Watt regress as players and Aldon Smith spending more time in rehab than on the field I believe Chandler Jones is the best defensive end in the NFL, some will say Mario Williams or Robert Quinn but Chandler is much better against the run and he makes plays in all 3 phases of the game (pass, run and special teams).

Jones 2013 Stats
Total Tackles – 61
Sacks – 10.5
Forced Fumbles – 1
Tackles for a Loss - 11
Hurries – 6
Stuffs – 4
Blocked Kicks – 1

He plays particularly well at Gillette where he has 7 of his 10.5 sacks this season.

He is also disciplined having been penalized just twice all season and both penalties occurred early in the season (week 2 and week 3).

It'd be a bit of a challenge to pass some of the guys on your list up, even despite their down years and off the field problems in 2013.

That said, I think that Chandler Jones is certainly one of the top up and comers in the NFL as a defensive player. I'm not as astute as some others who are film rats, but from my naked eye it appears that he made some improvements in his run defense from last season.

His presence certainly makes the loss of Seymour much easier to swallow, as that trade was probably the right decision, but it did leave us with a very big hole to try and overcome from the period of 2009-2012.

Overall, it's been a great pick for us! I'm glad to see it pay off after choosing to move up last spring.

IIRC, the conventional wisdom here after that draft was: Hightower comes NFL-ready, Jones is a project.

In the words of the Great Willie Wonka: Strike that. Reverse it.

Robert Quinn would like to have words with you.

Do they track the number of holding calls a DL draws? They should. He'd be a leader in that category as well. The ankle injury affected him all last year, now we're seeing what a healthy Jones can do.

If he would stop that cat fighting he'd be better.

I thought I was watching Investigation Discovery channel's forensic strangulation biopsies the way that both Jones and Ninko have been repeatedly choke hold held this season.

Those non-calls and the ongoing conundrum of WTF constitutes PI remain Unsolved Mysteries.

Robert Quinn is the best pass rusher in the league IMO. Best complete 4-3 DE? Jones.

Best DE in general? Watt, Wilkerson, then Jones.

Most underrated DE? Ninko. When it comes to setting the edge, dropping into coverage, and rushing the passer, he's all around good in all three areas.

As a pure pass rusher, he's not the best yet. He's still developing in that regard. He was incredibly raw when he was drafted. There's things that could definitely be improved upon in the pass rush areas of his game.

What many people fail to realize is how complete of a player he's become in just his sophomore season. His jump from year 1 to 2 has been incredible. He's not just a good pass rusher, but he's excellent in run support and he's even been tasked to cover in space, which he looks very comfortable doing.

His offseason training regiment is obviously paying huge dividends. He's one of the most fluid and athletic D-Linemen in the game right now.

You sure do like to throw out some challenging comments Brady6. There's quite a few guys who are better than Jones at this point in his career. That said, if Jones does continue to develop, arguably, he'll be one of the top 3 linemen in the business. Given that commentary, the Patriots really need to put another beast or two next to him on the line. I want them to take advantage of the double teams Jones will command.

Next year with his maturation and a healthy group on the field (Mayo) might be all that is needed.

Let's put some of these stats into context, shall we?
Jones' 10.5 sacks rank 5th in the NFL, behind:
1. Robert Mathis, 14.5
2. Robert Quinn, 13
3t. Justin Houston, 11
3t. Mario Williams, 11

His 61 total tackles rank 2nd in the NFL among Defensive Linemen, behind New England's own Rob Ninkovich (67)

I don't have the official stats from PFF (But that's okay because PFF is garbage anyways) but I think he had around 50 total pressures (including hurries, knockdowns, hits etc. around week 10/bye which is impressive considering the amount of double teams and non-calls that he faces.

All in all I'd say he's playing like a top 3 DE in the league... Can't say how glad I am that he's in a Patriots uniform.

Keep up the great work, Jones!

Do we fans here think that DPOY is a possibility this year for young Chandler?

I would tell him that if we were talking about pass rushing solely he would be #1 but since we're talking about all phases of the game Chandler is better.

Quinn has 35 total tackles Jones has 61 total tackles that's is nearly double.

PFF does I believe.

I don't know that there are AB but like I said if he isn't there yet he is on his way.

To expand on why I don't think there are quite a few - Jones is a very complete player capable of playing multiple positions and all 3 downs. Tell me another guy who can play:

4-3 DE
4-3 DT
3-4 OLB
3-4 DE

At the level that Jones can play? There are quite a few that can pass rush more effectively than Jones but as far as complete multi dimensional players I can't think of one that is ahead of Jones right now.

I'm not sure scout. We haven't seen the Patriots use Mayo in too much of an attacking role (not that he can't play that). He's usually mopping up the play. That said, Wilfork has historically commanded double teams. Jones would be near on unstoppable with Big Vince fit and healthy.

Watt isn't really a DE he spends most of his reps at DT.

Another beast in addition to Wilfork would make that one heck of a D-line. Normally I would advocate finding an O-lineman ahead of a D-lineman but a line consisting of Jones, Wilfork, "Beast", (other Jones/Vellano/Ninko) is tantalizing.

Julius Peppers, DeMarcus Ware, Tamba Hali, JJ Watt, Greg Hardy, Chris Long and Michael Johnson are a few I can name off the top of my head. Jones is a beast but let's not forget, the NFL is filled with beasts.

If the Patriots can afford him and/or he's willing to take a Patriots type of contract, Michael Johnson is the guy I would dearly love the Patriots to sign in Free Agency. That Defensive Line would rock my socks.
