Well, I look at it the other way.

First of all, I think he is being genuine. Thats cool.

Second, he needs a job. By getting an offer from NE achieves that goal.

Last, if the Patriots are offering a contract, because the market has not been set, he has no idea if that is the best offer or worst. By actually getting an offer establishes that. If another team decides to jump in and their offer is higher than NE's, then he just got a raise and now has leverage in negotiations w NE.

Bennett says some weird stuff but IMO hes a pretty smart dude and knows business.

He couldn't be more right about appreciating things more as you get older. You see how fast time goes by, especially if you have kids and you watch them grow to adults, I completely agree now that I have hit the 50 mark that I didn't appreciate the people in my life when I was younger as much as I do now.

As a life long Pats fan I hope he can reach a deal with the Pats in the off season, if not, I wish him all the best as he seems like a quality person with his head screwed on straight, which I cannot say is the case for a lot of entitled 29 yr old's that I meet in the world these days.

He has seen four different operations ( NE, Chi, Dal and NYG) so he knows the grass isn't always greener.
If it's only about the money, he may be gone.. But at some point if you have enough ( relatively speaking) $$, you look at the other factors like being in the playoffs for the first time since 2009 with a legit chance to win it all.. Oh and having a QB who can spot the open man and throw to you then, compared to Jay Cutler last year as he so eloquently put it...
Oh you have to love his quotes...especially the one about the playoffs compared to sex.. Considering how the Patriots are portrayed as the buttoned down , down let them say anything types, he is a free-wheeling free spirited ( non-psycho), the likes of which we haven't seen in a while.

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but Curran and Giardi were discussing this on Comcast last night. Curran cautioned anyone who thinks Bennett will take the proverbial "hometown discount" to not expect that. Curran also mentioned that on 2 separate occasions he has heard Bennett say loudly to Blount across the locker room something to the effect of,"Too bad you and I might not be here next season, LG." Curran said Blount appeared to not know what Bennett was talking about both times. Anyway, who knows? I don't count on anyone being a lock to re-up based on anything that's said either way.

Interesting, though that is a comment that, out of context, can be taken the wrong way. Granted, they're both on contract years but who the hell knows what that was. </optimism>

Big fan of Bennett. In a world of hyper muscular clones all saying "we executed / we didn't", I really appreciate personalities, more than most. A managed personality like both the Bennett brothers are the best. Marty himself is a man of geniune expression and a creative mind. And apparently a good business mind haha.

Well I was thinking about Bennett the last couple of days, and have come to a few conclusions.

1. He is very good but his isn't any Gronk. Gronk is still the epitome of TE excellence and the Pats still have him under control for the next 3 years IIRC. I'm not exactly sure how the next 3 years go, but I think next year the Pats will pay him around $8MM and then $9 and 10MM. I don't see how Bennett can expect to make more than Gronk while here there so we can start there.

Marty made about $5MM this season. The question that everyone needs to know is what kind of deal would keep him here for the next 3 to 4 years. I've seen clips where it still seems like he's headquartered in Chicago. I don't know if that's a factor.

At any rate, I think the limit that he can see here is in the $7/yr range. I think it is a fair some. I have no idea if he would. So a 4 year 28MM deal with 12-14 guaranteed would seem fair and give him time to establish a base in NE and expand on his off field endeavors around Boston.

I don't mean any disrespect, but Bennett seems like the kind of guy who is going to go where the money is unless the offers are extremely close. I think he's going to price himself out of NE. Which is unfortunate since our other TE can't stay on the field and might even be done as an NFL player.

MB speaks his mind, but you can tell that the patriot way has rubbed off on him:

“It’s interesting because when you do something over and over again, you seem to lose a little excitement as a human being. The fans somewhat are able to hold on to the high standard and the excitement of the playoffs,” he said. “Through social media or just walking around town or whatever when I come across people, everyone seems elated about the Super Bowl.”

Bennett stopped himself quickly.

“I mean, not the Super Bowl. I mean, they all talk about the Super Bowl, but it’s one game at a time,” he added. “The fans already put you in there. It’s just … it’s pretty awesome. It’s pretty awesome to meet the fans. They try and build you up and get you ready and pump you up. But I’m like, ‘I got this. This is what I do.’”

I was half kidding, but doesn't exactly help agent negotiate. Unlike other teams, it probably doesn't hurt here, but it's a pretty obvious observation.

Either way on Bennett for me. It's a very strong TE year in the draft so if we bring Bennett back, fine, if not getting younger, and still talented, is good too.
