The Patriots have not done this. Are they waiting on the contract with the players or to see if Brady can come back to his 2007 form.Will it cost them? Only time will tell.

Or they could be waiting for 2010 because of the rules that limit what they can offer Brady in 2009. . . .

Why could the Giants extend Eli then?

They had more cap room available. Even then, they still had to abide by those rules, and Eli might theoretically have been able to get more by waiting another year.

He is under contract for two more years. He will be 24 at that time. We obviously want Tom back for another contract. If he refuses and we get two more good years, then we get two more good years.

For the record, I want him back - think he'll be back. But if he moves on, he moves on. He'll not be 24. He'll be 34. And while a 34-40 year old TFB is better than anything else we could hope to find, we will have seen more than our money's worth of Tom.

Are you really naive enough to think that Teixera's wife had anything to do with that, and it wasn't just that the NYY offered him more money?
