I have seen numerous reports that we're not the only team that needs a LT. But, we REALLY NEED A LT. If Campbell, with his 33" long arms (per his Pro Day and confirmed by Patriots Scouts), becomes a 6'6 320-325 Matt Light, then I say take him at #4. I DO NOT WANT Membou, who's a RT and would be a much pricier as far as draft slot Caedan Wallace (yes, I know he's physically more gifted, and yes I know that Bruce Armstrong was a RT in college). It's quite possible that both Simmons and Conerly Jr. not only go in the 1st Round, but higher than our ability to trade back into the 1st Round to get either one (at least the number and value of draft picks required to do so). It's not just Sanders or a QB that a team might want to trade up for - e.g. is there someone the Bears want like Warren or maybe Membou? They're at 10 and have two 2nd rounders.
That would be the best possible outcome. However, Simmons and Conerly Jr. might go higher in the 1st Round than we thought, as there are other teams that are in need of LT's. Moving back into the 1st Round to grab one of them might not even be possible if any other teams value them that highly. So, it's a big IF. And regarding If's, when I was a kid and would ask my Grandfather what if? His usual response was : If you're Auntie had balls she'd be your Uncle.I've been advocating for a similar plan for a while now.
If we come out of the first round with 1 of Hunter/Carter and one of Simmons/Conerly Jr, I think that's a super solid start to the draft.
Great athlete, strong, very good length… showed out at the senior bowl for a practice then stopped. Possibly a team in the top three said they’d seen enough. Should be a consideration for the Pats.
You’ve already determined he can’t play on the left side?So our top 4 draft pick is going to be a back up to Morgan Moses?
I’m talking myself into just sticking and taking Campbell. He isn’t perfect, but likely MUCH better than Lowe, even if it’s just for a year like Washington did with their guy. Not like we have a great LG either. Hell, I’d double or even triple dip with Campbell, Ersery, and maybe a Hollins-type late. That plus BPA suits me fineI have seen numerous reports that we're not the only team that needs a LT. But, we REALLY NEED A LT. I'd rather take Campbell, who is a true gamer and tested against the best defenses in college football week in and week out for 3 seasons at LT (no, he's not a Joe Alt/Joe Thomas/Jonathan Ogden type in this draft), than an OT that's only played RT and has only been really mentioned since The Combine. If Campbell can even be a solid LT just for this season, and then by either virtue of where we're drafting next year/can move up to get someone who's better and then kick Campbell inside at LG for the long-term, then so be it. As much as Maye needs young and talented weapons (he does!), it all starts with a solid, if not great OL, not just for pass protection, but for run blocking. Solid LT's are getting more and more rare the last several drafts (which is why when a team has one, they rarely let them hit FA). I'd prefer we come out of this draft with a Day 1 solid starting LT, high upside WR (the kind that we've kept passing on or failing to draft for the last several seasons (Burden III, Jayden Higgins, Emeka Egbuka, Elic Ayomanor?), and then perhaps an Ersery or Trapilo as Swing Tackle this season/RT of the future. Cover those 3 bases, and then get the best players you can with the other picks or trade our late round picks (even the same regarding picks from next year's draft), and really get some high qaulity players and at position's that we really need them at. Just my 2 Cents.
What about the Wolf Man and his assistant Doctor Groh?BB has left. They are not trading down.
Stand pat @ 4 and go LT.I'm crossing my fingers and taking Campbell at 4.
That's actually an excellent idea! We can see how the WR Corps shakes out this season, then can address it through FA and/or the Draft next year. Although finding a gem at WR this year would be nice. For now though, the OL needs to be fixed. I'm totally on-board with your idea. By the way, if we got all 3, can you imagine Hollins at LG? That might be freaky good.I’m talking myself into just sticking and taking Campbell. "I don't want the youngest guy with the best upside, and crazy measurables and track record. I'd rather have the guy with T-Rex arms who gets worked consistently by long pass rushers, when all the pass rushers in our division are tall and fast"I have seen numerous reports that we're not the only team that needs a LT. Hunter and carter are the no brainers. How many of us agree with this plan?
1) Draft Hunter or Carter if he is available.
2) If not, trade down a few spots or more, once or twice.
3) Draft a LT in the first round, even it takes trading a couple of picks to move back into the first.
Have you watched the film or just going off of position and scouting reports? I also wanted Campbell over Membou until i watched the players for myself. Campbell is a flawless technician who is always in the right place at the right time, but nothing he does POPS off the screen. Everything about him screams average smart player that you will never notice one way or the other on Sundays. Valuable? Certainly, but with the 4th pick in the draft we can do better. Membou on the other hand jumps off the screen and dominates. Young and not as polished, he does get beat by stunts, blitzes, and twists but when he gets his man his guy is done and on the ground half the time. Yes switching to the left side is a concern but if he does make it, and again young plus stupidly athletic, he has all pro potential. I am aboard the trade down to 10 and pick up a 2nd train over either guy but if no one is willing to trade up and we have to draft at 4 Membou over Campbell all day.I have seen numerous reports that we're not the only team that needs a LT. Deone Walker? The mid-round DT? Is this sarcasm?I'm fine with taking Deone Walker, but he should still be there in the 3rd round.
We don't need Graham, we've got two young DTs that do the same thing he does.
Whatever."I don't want the youngest guy with the best upside, and crazy measurables and track record. I'd rather have the guy with T-Rex arms who gets worked consistently by long pass rushers, when all the pass rushers in our division are tall and fast"
This is you.
This is what you sound like.
I'm expecting that we would need to trade our 2nd, 3rd and 4th to move up enough to take Simmons or Connerly. Even Carter/Hunter and Eserly and a RB would be an excellent draft. That would be the best possible outcome.
