I'm expecting that we would need to trade our 2nd, 3rd and 4th to move up enough to take Simmons or Connerly. Even Carter/Hunter and Eserly and a RB would be an excellent draft.
That wouldn't suck!

Shorter wingspan is undersized. It's not impossible for him to succeed at LT but traditionally that wingspan is put at OG.

Isaiah Wynn was shorter but had a longer wingspan but most people viewed him as OG on the NFL. He failed at OT and had to switch to OG.

Titans drafted Peter Skoronski in 23 to be their LT but had to move him to OG by training Camp. They drafted Latham, who was a RT in college last year to be their LT but they overpaid for a true LT this FA.

Again, Campbell could succeed but the odds do not favor him excelling at LT in the NFL. Im not opposed to drafting him but you can't ignore the red flags either
I think the path should be to play Campbell at LT this year. There's not a lot of downside considering he's likely going to be better than Lowe. And if he fails because of length, the worst we'll be is needing a LT next year whilst having added a starting maybe pro-bowl level LG. Not the ideal situation but as a worst possible outcome, not disastrous either.

On the other side, as a middling outcome, we get a Matt Light quality LT that we can run with for a while whereas the upside outcome is that we have a LT that is worthy of the no 4 overall pick.

The same can be said for Membou and RT.

I'm willing to run with those odds. If there was a clean prospect that was clearly better for the 4th pick then fine but I don't think that player exists in this draft.

Great athlete, strong, very good length… showed out at the senior bowl for a practice then stopped. Possibly a team in the top three said they’d seen enough. Should be a consideration for the Pats.
He was ill.

I'll pay the 4th overall pick for a decade of Matt Light quality LT play 11 times out of 10.

Especially if you have the knowledge that should an elite level LT come along, you can still draft him and potentially get an elite level LG to boot.

That's exactly why I have no issues with either Campbell or Membou. Took awhile to change my mind on that one.

If you get solid to good play at LT with the possibility of elite play at the LG or RT position later, then that's a win with this draft class.

I'm also a fan a taking the raw but very much elite sized LT prospect Jalen Travis day 3 to hopefully develop to allow for Campbell or Membou to go to their more natural position.

Of course it's also possible Campbell could excel at LT which would be great as well.

If they draft Membou, it's presumably because they think he can make the transition. Don't forget, Membou is one of the youngest prospects in this draft so he has time on his side.
I'm not drafting someone at #4 to teach him how to play a position and hopefully he gets it.

I would take Campbell at #4 or trade down a little and get Banks

Simmons is the prize. He will be the best LT from this draft and the injury will drop him to the teens.
If we can trade down to 12-15 he should be there (fallback is at least Banks would be there) then we can use what we get to trade our second up to around 20 and draft Egbuka.
Coming out of day 1 with Simmons and Egbuka is a massive home run. Better than any other scenario I can envision.

How many of us agree with this plan?
1) Draft Hunter or Carter if he is available.
2) If not, trade down a few spots or more, once or twice.
3) Draft a LT in the first round, even it takes trading a couple of picks to move back into the first.

Ignore Hunter and Carter. Get the most from another team in a trade down. Whether it's to 8, 10, 13 whatever. Adding a 2nd rounder this year and potentially more picks next year would do really help this team both in the short term and long term.

Then you take your OT. I know that BGC likes Simmons and I think it was Bake that said that Simmons is the only TRUE 1st round grade. But you take the guy who has the ATTITUDE and skills you're looking for.

Once you add that OT, then you can draft BPA while hoping to fill needs at FS, OC, RB, Slot Corner, DT, DE.

There are 2 teams that stick out as having a need at LT besides the Patriots. They are the Dolphins, who just lost Armstead, and the Steelers, who allowed Dan Moore, Jr. to walk.

Neither team is well stocked with draft capital.

Houston might be a team lurking to snatch a OT in the 1st round, but they it's not a need for them since they signed both Cam Robinson and Trent Brown. Houston does have more capital than either Miami or Pitt.

One team that the Pats should talk to is Seattle. They have a bunch of draft capital this year having an extra 2 and extra 3. I think that 18 would be a good spot to be at to pick up the OT the Pats need. Hunter would replace Metcalf. Carter would give them an edge rusher to pair with Hall.

Why not just forfeit the 4th altogether and let it go to waste? That way we don't have to worry about the possibility of making a mistake with it? Doing this you ensure there won't be any hindsight arguments down the road.

Note for the sarcasm impared: That was sarcasm.
Good idea, that would save some money as well.

Hunter and carter are the no brainers.
Trading back into the first for Simmons only. Not for Connoly or Ersery, both or either I would be fine with at 38, If they are off the board, take a chance on Charles grant a litlte early at 38. I would love to see Belton there at 106, if not Vinson a little later at 171.

Of course I still cant understand why Huprhries is still out there.
I am not sure that Grant would provide much more than Lowe did last year. I think Lowe will be better this year as a backup when needed.

I'm fine with taking Deone Walker, but he should still be there in the 3rd round.
We don't need Graham, we've got two young DTs that do the same thing he does.
I wouldn't mind a trade, if able, to get Kenneth Grant

This is the kind of DT we're missing. So I wouldn't cry about it either.
Some Mocks have Grant going at the end of the 1st and some have in going in the 2nd. I think he's very underrated. Could he have been one of the reasons Graham was as successful as he was? I'd love to get him. I'd trade a pick from next year's draft to get him so we can still get the other players that we want. That's how much potential I think that he has.
