How does the Kansas City Chiefs run of success compare to others in the SB era? How's it compare to the Patriots?

Interesting analysis.

Like it is with players it's tough to compare teams across eras. I'm not sure the level of competition between the Chiefs and the AFC is at the level of what the Patriots faced in their first dynasty run especially the QB's. I like Josh Allen and Lamar but they're not Peyton Manning in his prime with a scary set of receivers or Big Ben and that Steelers defense and running game. Safe to say the Chiefs are the team of the 2020's. Since 2018 the Chiefs have been to 7 AFC Championship games in a row, won 5 of them and won 3 titles. The Pats have an almost identical mark in their run from 2011-2018, having been to an extra championship game. The Chiefs have time to improve on their own run of success.

Sure on paper the Dolphins finishing the year undefeated is the greatest season. I think it gets tricky when you start comparing that to other great teams and their championship runs. The 72 Dolphins had the easiest opponent strength of schedule since the 1950's (.396). The AFC East in particular was atrocious and that includes the Pats who had one of their worst teams in franchise history. The Dolphins also didn't dominate in the playoffs, they won all their playoff games by no more than 1 score. Can't fault them for playing who is on their schedule but I have a hard time seeing the 72 Dolphins beating a lot of Super Bowl winning teams in a hypothetical game.

It rankles me a bit that the '72 Dolphins are always rated so high on all-time team lists, when frankly, the' 73 Fins were better and some of their players agreed. The '73 team were never challenged in the post-season defeating every team in the post-season by 14 points or more if I'm not mistaken, unlike the '72 team which won all one-score games in the post-season.

1972 Dolphins are the most overrated team of all time. not only was the 1973 team better, but so were at least 10 other Super Bowl champions

I noticed that the writer didn't do a best 20 year run. We know who wins that.

I see a lot of people casually assuming KC makes it back to and wins more Super Bowls.

I think it is far, far more likely the dynasty is over - or at least on hiatus. I don't think we are going to hear from KC in February for some time.
