Re: Copy cat league

I'm not against some new OL, IMO however, I think our draft picks would be more wisely spent on the defensive side of the ball. At least for the early portion of the draft. Can we get an OLB????

This year 30 sacks and 55 hits. The OL let brady get hit 85 times this year,This is a problem.

re-sign Mankins...

Is it just me, or has Mankins been completely crap during our last three playoff losses? When it appears he dominates during the regular season, why is this? Scheme problems, or he chokes under pressure, or...?

Might be worth considering whether we should just cut bait and find another guy to anchor the interior line.

From what ive seen is usually been Koppen and/or Light

Dontay Moch: 6'2" 229 lbs ain't no OLB.

If the 4.2 speed is legit (or even 4.4) he ought to transition to safety. Quite an athlete-- I can imagine the special teams possibilities, but a big project anywhere above rounds 3-4

I think first thing you do in an offseason is to figure out who you are going to pay the most....franchise type players. I dont think it would be BB who would pay Mankins and Light the same as he could Woodley(he pays FA LBs!) and a rookie OL. To me, no comparison, the Jets couldnt score on the Bears but put 28 on us...we need defensive playmakers in the front 7. Sign Woodley, draft a DE high, then with 28 take a RT and 33 a G/C. Neal and Kaczur and Koppen are stop gaps, Connolly is servicable but can any of our backups step up? If it were my money
LT-Vollmer-might as well move him here now
LG-Connolly/Kaczur
C-Koppen/Connolly
RG-Neal/rookie
RT-Kaczur/Rookie
Now unless home town discounts are taken we have a huge turnover on the OL....and this means Neal is back and Kaczur is likely starting.

That is one scary looking Oline. Who knows about Kaczurs back and Neals shoulder, you have Connolly and Vollmer moving right to left, and the only spot that is the same may be our weakest link in Koppen. IMO, which has been stated in this thread already, resigning Light and Mankins should be free agent priorities one and two. And upgrading Koppen and/or Connolly should be an important piece of the draft.

On paper what you presented could work If Kazcur and Neal return to health and Vollmer and Connolly both get better and handle the move then you would have saved the picks/FA money I want to use on the line. But those are some pretty big ifs and I would not take that chance.

My plan allows us to improve the Oline by not breaking it up and then improving one of the weaker links. It still leaves all but one of the picks to go defensive with and I would think if BB thought it prudent he could resign both Light and Mankins and still have room to make a free agent splash.

Send Tom flowers when he's in the hospital

It's either 1a or 1b next to a pass rusher as our biggest need

If the season started tomorrow we'd start Kazcur, Connolley and one of the Neal/Ohrnberger/Wendell crowd, so until at leat one of Mankins/Light get resigned it's need number one.

As the team is today OL is a much higher need then DL. In one year we won't have 5 starting OLs that we have today. Light, Mankins, Koppen, Neal, Connolly's contracts are all set to expire in the next year or already have.

On the DL side, over the next 2 years the entire DL is under contract with Wilfork, Warren, Wright, Brace, Deadrick, Pryor.

Besides trying to replace Seymour, I don't see a huge need at DL.

"Other than that, how was the play, Mrs. Lincoln?"

I think he's saying 3 out of 4 of the picks should be Oline... maybe I'm wrong tho

Basically I'm not saying DL shouldn't be addressed, but OL is a far more in need of help. If the scenario plays out where we do not take a DL early then the team will still play about as well as it did last year (11th ranked team vs the run), but without taking an OL early or having someone step up and contribute this offense will look pretty bad next year.

agreed plus they have Ty Warren returning and let's hope Brace, Deaderick and Pryor improve. Mike Wright will be back too

I was just cracking wise with regards to the "Besides trying to replace Seymour" part. That's been [cliche] the elephant in the room [/cliche] for two seasons.

gotcha... haven't we been saying the same thing about the real elephant...McGinest?

Just wondering if those who answered "High" and not "Extremely High" are rethinking it now?

The retirment of Neal, parting ways with Kazcur, Mankins...
