Hopkins Headed to Tennessee

It's a fairly simple: Hopkins hasn't done anything for a few years, he's over 30 and living on past reputation meaning I don't believe he would have automatically become our #1 receiver straight out of the gate. Clear enough?
In the handful of games he played last year he looked better than any WR on the Patriots roster.

Who would be our #1 if Hopkins was signed? An injury prone Parker? KB who was phased out the offense? I know for damn sure it’s not Thorton.

Depends how you view the Pats Offense but I think building from a 2TE base, it's running through the Henry-Gesicki tandem. Sprinkle whatever WRs you want around those two.

If Hopkins pulls in 1k yards this season, it doesn’t matter how healthy those guys stay. It’ll still be a bad move because those yards would have been gained here which also would have actually benefited those guys.

The only way this looks like a great move if Hopkins not only sucks but Bill ends up using the cap space on something else that helps.
If Mac/Zappe and the offense are one of the highest scoring offenses in the NFL, this will be completely irrelevant.

I remember people freaking out when the Titans signed Julio Jones, that turned out to be a complete bust.

I mean I guess if the base offense is going to be two TEs, better hope they both stay healthy cause the depth behind them is a bunch of jags.

Indeed and while I don't deny it would be great to add an explosive playmaker to the WR room, I'm uncertain that guy is Hopkins. 2TE would seem to make the most of Mac's strengths so let's hope from the complementary pieces on the outside, something sticks. That said, I do like the idea of securing a Tee Higgins type.

Because it is. Athletes file in states across the country, based on games played there.
Well that's not what the above-mentioned article says regarding the state of the team they play for, but w/e....

Adam Schefter on Get Up this morning stated one of the teams interested in DHop offered him 4 million a year while Tennessee offered 12 million. Is he referring to the Pats or maybe one of the teams (Chiefs and Bills) that were interested early on.

did anyone seriously think they would sign Hopkins? Bill the GM needs cap "flexibility" so he can make his trade deadline deals for backup linebackers and defensive backs who also play special teams.
the thought of Hopkins was great, after all, why wouldn't you give your third year QB more quality options...this also tells me we are going to see another incredibly boring offense

Or to extend Josh Uche, Kyle Duggar, Mike Onwenu, Hunter Henry, Mike Gesicki, Jalen Mills, Trent Brown, Kendrick Bourne and more... all of whom are free agents after this year. I wanted Hopkins also, but let's not pretend they don't have players to sign.

If Obie does his job, if the weapons stay healthy and the young WR's develop this will be much to do about nothing.

Breer says the $4M number was specifically the Chiefs (with another $6M potential incentives), but that the Pats’ offer was structured similarly.

Yes just saw Breer say Pats matched the the Titans first year of the contract.

We can move on now good luck being insignificant D-Hop. As bad as Mac played last season he still have more upside than any Tennessee QB right now. Would love to hear the contract details. We can bet Vrabel Over paid. Really hope you don't blow your knees out D-Hop I would really shed a tear.
Because coming to the Patriots would have been significant? That ship sailed down to Tampa years ago. Nobody is coming here to chase a ring. We lost that.

31 years old and missed a lot of games the last couple of years, partly because of injuries and partly for reasons of the PED variety. Just sayin.

Certainly an upgrade but a guy that makes us a championship contender by himself? Nope. That part is up to Mac Jones.

And we lost that because BB the GM screwed up and could not get Brady the top-flight WRs that he wanted. He certainly had his opportunities (Deebo, Metcalf, etc.), but BB is simply incapable of dealing with elite WRs. It is his blind spot, and the DHop fiasco is the latest in a long line of WR screwups.

Next question is what does that mean? Did they match guaranteed $ or total potential earnings?

Lol... you think he went to the Titans to chase a ring?

They also passed the ball the 30th fewest times in the NFL last year, so he wasn't going for targets or stats either.

Hopkins was obviously all about the money and won't be paying state income tax in Tennessee.

So, now that you are no longer a Patriots fan and Tom is retired, what team are you a fan of?

4 Super Bowls and 3 rings in six years = "screwed up"
