Hopkins Headed to Tennessee

Patriots have absolutely butchered how to take advantage of a cheap rookie contract this place would of been laughing if this was another team during the Brady era.

They're not paying anyone top of the market money, they're overpaying a bunch of bottom of the roster players who should be on league minimum, they don't have a single elite game changer offensively and they wasted a year with a defensive coordinator as an OC.

How can teams paying the quarterback 40m a year have more talent on the roster than a team paying theirs 5m, that's brutal.

What a prick!

We'll see how this turns out. My hopes was that he'd have something left in the tank, but it won't shock me if goes off the cliff like Julio Jones/AJ Green.

This is going one way or another - a lost opportunity or he did the Pats a favor.

Well unfortunately it looks like we are going into this season with basically the same supporting cast as last year. I think O'Brien will give the offense a bit of a bump but our schedule this year is significantly tougher.

You have to remember you only pay taxes on home games, not road games.
Believe it or not, you actually do pay taxes for road games. It's weird. We had a discussion about this in the early offseason about this.

That sucks. It would have been nice to add him. Mac’s going into a critical year re: whether or not we should pick up his option. It would have been nice to see him with a true #1 and a real OC for the first time in two years.

Not at all unexpected. Definitely tells you that BB does not really think the team can seriously compete for a top spot in the AFC this year.
If this is the case, its a good decision to not throw cap space out the window for a non difference maker.
The more I think about Cook the more I’m all for it. He’s a weapon and has to be accounted for when he is on the field. Do we need him? Not really but being able to give him and Stevenson rest would go a long way in keeping the running game strong throughout the season. If Stevenson gets hurt, Mac is screwed.

I agree with your assessment for the lack of aggressiveness in signing Dhop. Just makes me wonder what the end game for Bill is. According to OTC the Pats have more Salary Cap available over the next 4 seasons than anyone else in the league. Does he view this as year 2 of the rebuild while many of us see it as year 3? Is he keeping the cap clean for the next guy? He has a ton of guys to consider for contract extensions but how many of them are gonna require massive bucks? You’ve got a QB on a rookie contract and you’re not doing everything you can to make a run right now. Is it because he doesn’t see Mac as the guy for the future so there’s no point, or he does see Mac as the future and is giving him a chance to develop before he stocks him up with talent? Or am I thinking too hard and everyone is full of **** and Kraft HAS told Bill to ease up on spending for the moment? How long before we finally get a story with the headline “Coach hates his team.”?

Hopefully the Patriots can draft another greatest of all time type QB soon so Belichicks nickel and dime approach to building a roster doesn’t result in a long stretch of 8 win seasons
Right. Because they do that so often. Grow WRs around here like they grow CBs... oh, wait...

WELL SAID

Kinda pathetic we can't get an elite weapon in the third year of a rookie QB contract. Every decent GM gets top weapons and goes all out on talent when the QB is on a cheap contract.

This has nothing to do with the lack of a DHop signing, but I share your feelings for the most part. Especially considering the guys you've drafted that for the most part have been solid contributors have been let to just walk and then you have other solid guys you've drafted that can be extended now and nothing is being done. Im not seeing the end game strategy here. Then again, Im not that bright. What am I missing?

its not that he signed with Tennesee that bothers me, its that it was only for $13million a year. $12million this year.

Bill paid Agholor $12million, Jonnu smith $12million. But wont extend himself for Deandre Hopkins? The way Bill is handling this team is a joke. He's operating like Tom Brady is still on the team. how is it teams have $40million quarterbacks and can pay players?

You look at the dolphins who go out and get their QB Tyreek hill and they improve. Then on the other hand you have Bill bargain basement shopping giving his QB Defensive coordinators and

Unless Bill lucks into a GOAT QB we are going to be a middling team the rest of his career with his philosophy on roster building.

No money on the books, QB on a rookie deal, still won't spend. Awesome.
Bill the GM needs to go.
Bill the coach can stay.
Kraft saying he has no problem spending.
If it comes out later that Kraft was actually handcuffing Bill financially I will be so heated.
Boutte we need you to grow up kid.
I’m still holding out hope for a Jeudy trade.
Broncos drafted like 3 receivers.
