Honestly have no idea how that Defense can be fixed

Not trading 2 of your 4 best players on D would of helped.

Part of the problem was self inflicted, you massively downgraded at two positions and the secondary had holes even before then.
Not just trading them, but not getting anything useful in return to help immediately. To show how overrated the Pat's defense is, they got torched for 31 points by the NFL's 28th ranked offense.

Perhaps he thought that matchup-wise Coleman and Ryan were a better fit for Seattle's receivers. Didn't matter much though since other than Butler (who had a rough day himself) the other CBs couldn't cover anything.
Im guessing that they have a more advanced understanding of the various zone coverage packages but good grief.

Doing your job doesn't mean a thing when the players they have aren't able.
Since Brady was around I don't recall ever seeing a worst secondary. They cannot stop anybody at all. 3rd downs are automatic all game.

Pats just don't have the personal to stop the pass. A perfect example of the shape of the secondary is the last play of the half. Chung and Ryan just pay no attention to Baldwin he is open by 10 years next to the end zone.

People seem to be forgetting that Seattle is one of the worst offenses in the leauge. Imagine what will happen if the pats end up playing oakland, dallas, Tennessee or the Steelers at full strength. They will give up 50 points.
If the pats don't score 30+ points they are in danger of losing the game.

Bingo.

Wonder what Dmac would like in a scheme that allows him more freedom. I honestly just think the coaches want him deep sitting back and not taking any real risks.

So basically, DMac is the opposite of JCollins, which is why he gets $9M/year and Collins gets shipped to Cleveland.

Of course this game really makes you wonder how a little JCollins free-lancing could possibly be any worse than what we saw.

But they do have the personnel to stop the pass. Butler is a legit CB1, McCourty is a $9m/year safety. And in the pre-season I think most people were worried about how could we possibly keep Harmon and Ryan after their rookie deals. And people raved about how much Chung improved in coverage from his first go around.

Really, if receivers are getting open by 10 yards I think that is on the coaching.

Butler is great but there is a reason why QBs always throw at Ryan: he is a dumpster fire. If he isn't getting burned then he is getting flagged for PI. Coleman is just as bas.

If they pats had the players to stop the pass then they would. I find it hard to believe the gameplan was to allow the Seahawks to pass the ball around at will.

Pats don't have the players to stop the pass and BB/Patricia has no idea what to do to try and fix that.

Our DBs

I hate the standard Belichick responses some of you give

Doing their job doesn't work if the assignments given to them by the coaches aren't going to work. Your suggestion also assumes that the players are all up to the job. I don't think that's likely.

I'm sure Ryan did his job as best he could in that TD pass he gave up, but he is just not good enough.

Even when there was somewhat pressure on Wilson, our DBs are simply not good enough. Even Butler gave up easy pass completions.

We won our last SB because we had Revis and Browner.

What could really help is a pass rusher and an athletic LB who can cover.

Looked like they came out running through motions with no sense of urgency. TB and Offense finally got it going. JE Fumble was costly late but if Def holds a couple of those drives it's a different result.
We're On To SF.

This place is turning into an episode of Felger and Mazz.

Everyone thinks they know everything better than BB & co despite only being exposed to the team during matchdays, not knowing what happens everyday in practice. The reaction to a loss against the Seahawks makes you think we got raped KC-style or are barely at 0.5.

I know how to set the clock in my car better than BB.

I also know that defensive scheme last night was horrible and overall this year with the soft as melting butter zone schemes are hurting this team.

For some reason Ryan has regressed big-time in a contract year. He was pretty solid last year, a legit CB2.

Patricia has come up with a different defensive scheme...he issued blankets to Logan and Coleman......

Secondary gets no help from the pass rush. Sheard has fallen off the map, Long is up and down, there's no interior pressure. Flowers looks good but the only way to dial up pressure is to blitz Hightower, and then that left someone like Prosise or Graham open and Wilson is too good a QB to not hit them with pressure in his face.

I'm wondering how Carroll is gonna fix his defense

385 yards and 60% on 3rd down allowed this week
425 yards and 70.5% on 3rd down last week
375 yards and 60% the week before
445 yards and 47.6% week before that

Ryan did well last year because there was a decent pass rush.

Ryan is not doing well this year because they are not generating enough pressure on the Qb

Overall I've been ok with him as CB2 but last night there were bad matchups all over theplace for him.

It was just like the Super bowl.

They should have played more man

Coleman is horrible on the outside. I don't know why they continue to use him out there. He is another Arrington.

Just like Sb49, Ryan was scorched. The dude cannot play man consistently.

They should have played Rowe and Jones in the slot and more man vs those shifty WRs.

Bad game plan, bad choice for inactive bad tactics.

No more zone schemes. They simply magnify our deficiencies. Rush 4, high or Roberts on a delayed blitz. Play press man outside. Ryan rides the pibe in favor of Rowe, who sees safety help while matched up with the toughest cover. His 2 dpi calls were garbage. Get him on the field and let him do hus thing. We dont have the personell for that candy ass drop 8 zone nonsense. If High is dropping out 15 yards at the snap....wtf. Stupid ass scheme. Patricia shoukd ride a short bus to gillette all week after drawing up that abortion.

You seem to be forgetting that the Seahawks also has an INT and a fumble recovery. (Meanwhile the pats have struggled all year forcing turnovers.)

You're also forgetting that the pats are a top ranked offense in the leauge while the Seahawks are toward the bottom.

I'd take the Seahawks defense over the pats 100/100 times.

Straw man. Seattles D has nothing to do with the Pats D.

Is Malcolm Butler better playing 20 yards off or playing press man? How many wide open passes were completed without a defender in sight.

The Pats O is SO good they make good Ds look bad. Seattle was right there everytime and made TB be perfect with his passes. Just look at this sideline throws to Edelman and Gronk. They earned everyone of this yards they got.

Seattle was given every single yard on a silver platter. Disgusting. If this is personnel related, well that's on you BB. And it probably is.
