HIGHTOWER'S BACK!!! (UPDATE: his contract is less than originally reported)

Ha, wow. For some reason I took the time to read that. Allow me to summarize:

"Hightower didn't get lots of sacks so he's not a big playmaker, ok? Why else would the Patriots have let him go to FA, if he's so great? Overrated. Steelers were too distracted by HT to go after other FA's, whom they wouldn't have signed anyways since they don't usually do that."

And Hightower is overrated because he makes big plays in Super Bowls and of course wouldn't be in any ID he went to Pittsburgh.

I still think he was a little irked at his contract situation then but clearly not in complete pissed off mode.
Doesn't seem that he had any problem at all.
My conspiracy theory is they had this deal in the bag months ago and he just was messing with these other teams so they would waste their time.
2 division rivals and the team we beat in the AFCCG. Hmmmm

Excellent news!!!! I'd love to see the most "hardcore" GDT all-star have something bad to say about this

Interesting.

I do think they had the $10m aav framework established before he went to FA. High knew he had a deal w/ NE no matter what and it was solid.

I also think he wanted to keep BB honest and not be perceived as totally subservient to him.

In terms of messing with the rivals? Possibly. They might have picked up on that which is why it is rumored they gave him take it or leave it offers.

The Titans interest was interesting in how fast it died. They were perfect for each other. Might be a situation where Robinson knew BB and High had a deal and because he knows how they operated with DMC and knows High was ultimately going back there, it could be High was up-front with him (that he had a deal w/ BB in place) and courteous and considerate to Robinson in saving him time and effort in courting him

For the Squealers and Jets......F- them.

???? Okay, I'll continue to spare you those posts.

Uh, sorry must have forgotten to put in the "so please people spare me the posts.." that wasn't directed at you but the inevitable idiots that miss the nuance of the HT/VM comparison.

Again, sorry it wasn't directed at you specifically..

Wow we are STACKED now.
If we can keep and sign Butler, if only to trade him at some future point, we are well poised to at least return to the Superbowl. Who in the AFC can hang with the Pats for a full 60 minutes?

You may get up on us at some point in the game but we're never down until the final whistle blows.

How often does a Superbowl champ actually GET BETTER during the offseason? In the modern game, tons of talent gets leeched off the champ, but not us.

Those "I'm tired of waiting of Hightower call Zach Brown" post looking pretty silly now that we got Hightower for a steal..
Ive been pushing to sign Zach Brown AND Hightower.

In other news, God rested on the 7th day so he didn't have to compete with the Pats.
OK. But how do you explain God's hatred of the Jets?

This is the part that is too often overlooked. People like to minimize the two plays that were critical to those two Lombardi's but they overlook the fact that winning Super Bowl's takes the players who make the big plays at the big moments and Hightower has been that player.

I have a different view on one of those two SB winning plays. The tackle on Lynch is because of a great play he made, but the sack on Ryan was because of a horribly blown assignment by the opponent. Not meant as a knock on HT though because he made plenty of other great plays.

Holy crap. Thats a pretty significant stat.
Maybe, maybe not. Needs context.

If Hightower tends to be out for certain categories of plays and those plays are generally higher-average plays because of the nature of the plays, then this would indicate nothing. Conversely, if he tends to be out for plays that are intrinsically lower-averaging plays then this may well mean something.

Here's an example of what I mean...
Player 1 is a not-great defender who mostly plays only on running downs.
Player 2 is an excellent defender who mostly plays mostly on passing downs.

Because an average pass play racks up more yards than an average run play, it is highly likely that the defense will give up fewer yards when Player 1 is on the field than when Player 2 is on the field, even though Player 2 is a significantly better player than Player 1.
