What a load of horseshit that is^

Can you imagine the collective orgasm if he'd signed there?

Yeah, it's horseshit, but by the same token there were a bunch of posters here saying basically the same stuff over the past couple days because they were convinced he was leaving, for some reason. At least that guy waited a bit before dialing the sour grapes up to 11.

Awesome News HT!
Now if Butler signs his Tender and some how it gets ironed out at least for this season, this would be # 1 Defense again with arguably Best CB Combo in NFL* along with DBs.

I know too much has happened with Pats/Butler saga, but it's a fun thought.

Why do I see MEvis (recentley cleared of all charges) in Pat's Uni again while Jets* pick up bulk of his contract.

Is it really past the point of no return with Butler? The last I heard, he "wanted to be a Patriot for life" and he strikes me as one like Hightower who was raised in our system and has become addicted to winning, so he would take less to stay on a winning team rather than break the bank but fail to reach the postseason each year. Or is his agent now too jilted that the Patriots dared talk about a trade with the Saints?

Yes, but lets keep in mind that we have no idea what 12m APY at the Jets means. No info about guarantees/incentives/structure...

We have some idea, they reportedly had the Pats beat on guaranteed money even before they raised their offer:

Subsequent to that, they reportedly raised the AAV that they were offering; may have raised the guarantees too, although even if they didn't that's still substantially more than he got from the Pats.

Spin....spin..... spin.... spin

"Stats are for losers. The final score is for winners."

Hard not to love this on every level as they kept the middle really strong and added significant pass rush ability by retaining Hightower. Serious game of chicken by Belichick but they came out in top again.

Missed that.

I generally agree with the sentiment. Linebackers are usually done by 31/32.

One exception is Kevin Greene, I watched Kevin Greene - A Football Life, last night. He had some monster years in his 30s, including a couple where he led the league in sacks. As he got up there in age, Pittsburgh, Carolina and San Fran cut him because they all figured he was done.

I'm sure there are other outliers out there but in Hightower's case, I bet that he's done by 31.

Guess High is back in the ring business again.

Kraft can recoup some of that contract money with jersey sales. Should be safe to buy one now.

It's partly that (I think that's why Tennessee, among others, didn't blow him away with their offers), and partly that he was willing to leave money on the table to stay here (the Jets offered him 12M+, but he chose to stay here for <11M instead).
Yeah, but for every report that says the Jets offered him $12MM there's on that says they didn't. We won't ever know the truth, I think what the Pats offered was pretty much where the market was. Maybe not the top deal he saw during FA, but close enough that the difference wasn't enough to make him move.

At any rate. I'm glad this happened today, even if its just to have a momentary respite from all the Butler gossip.

$10.9M/yr makes him second highest paid MLB,

someone chose that number specifically because the next two guys make 10.8 and 10.7

That's what I'm saying, which one is it?!
From Mediots* reportings to his Agent's advice to look for a trade for more money resulting from signing of Gilmore pi$$in him off or a hold out or maybe Butler really does want to stay. I thing that Pats won't withdraw their 1st round tender before June 15th making him a UFRA, then they won't be compensated for losing him.

But what do we really know at this point other than Gilmore got a contract that Butler wanted since last season.

I have to admit, i was little worried really small % that he will sign somewhere else, Titans, but after Titans out, i was confident that he isnt going with Stellers or Jets, i was worried about his deal being around 14mils per year.

As a small side note: I find it really funny that NYJ and PIT both reportedly pulled their offers as soon as Hightower left town. It looks like teams are starting to recognize that they're basically just negotiating on the Pats' behalf, and they really don't like it. One more way in which we're living in everyone else's head.
